Fireforge Games’ Samurai Wars Plastic Sets Hit Kickstarter
July 25, 2022 by brennon
Fireforge Games has now taken to Kickstarter with their newest project that is looking to bring The Samurai Wars to the tabletop. They are focusing on funding a new selection of 28mm plastic miniatures that can help you recreate this period of history.

There are a bunch of plastic sets that they are working on for this project that should give you the basics of a proper Samurai army. They are covering all the bases with Commanders, Ashigaru, Samurai and more plus some rules by the end of the campaign too!
Commanders // Fireforge Games
Things are going to be broken down so you have a set of Commanders that can be built and added to your various Ashigary and Samurai units. Plus, you can use them to make smaller diorama pieces when you need a leader sitting at the back of the battlefield.
Ashigaru Warriors With Yari // Fireforge Games
With the Ashigaru, they are going to be split between two boxes. You have the Ashigaru Warriors armed with Yari or Naginata. You will then be able to make "Shooters" that come with the option of Teppou (guns) or Yumi (bows).

The Samurai also get themselves a couple of new plastic boxes. You can get your hands on heavily armoured Samurai with Yari, Naginata or Katana. So, it's quite a diverse box when it comes to the bitz you can play with.
Samurai Warriors // Fireforge Games
I really like that there seems to be a good mix of different poses in the boxes. They all feel nice and dynamic and should make for great skirmishing forces and ranked-up forces if required. You can also snap up some Mounted Samurai as well who can be armed with Yari, Katana or Yumi (horse archers!).
Samurai Cavalry // Fireforge Games
Last but not least (and found over on their Kickstarter Page), you can also snap up some Warrior Monks. These can be armed with Naginata, Teppou or Yumi depending on how you want to defend your temple.
Here you can see how these miniatures sit when sat next to miniatures from a variety of other ranges.
Samurai Scale Comparison // Fireforge Games
They feel like they match up very nicely with other 28mm ranges, especially the Historical Perry range. So, it should be a nice way to supplement an existing collection. You could also start with these plastics and then move on to picking up some metal Samurai from other companies to finish them off.
What do you make of these new Samurai miniatures?

May be interesting to paint the figures up in browns like the clay army in China.
Those look really good.
very good for Clash of Katanas
I was really looking forward to these but the Kickstart is turning me off. In order to get any freebie you have to spend over 165 euros. Which is about 6 boxes which is perhaps worth it but it is a lot to shell out. It is far more than I was expecting to spend in one go. While you can back it below this level you only save like 8% of the RRP. For all the risk with kick starters, delays shipping cost and the fact most retail companies will give me 10% off anyway the RRP price. So… Read more »
