Ever since I first saw this box I knew I had to fulfil my dream of having a Penal legion force.
Twenty Men with Chains and Pistols for Close Combat, the idea of a guy with nothing to lose trying to kill an Astartes with a chain is just too good not to have in an army. The Iron Warriors used their human troops like cannon fodder during the Great Crusade which meant they stopped being given proper units and started getting the dregs and Penal Troops.
One Hundred and Twenty Men with Lasguns (I bought 5 boxes). This left me with 10 left overs which I made into some snipers
After a basecoat of Wraithbone the minis are painted with Army Painter Speedpaint Fire Orange. This is a tricky one since it's very powerful and it's tricky to go over with other paint as it bleeds through.
I like the bright orange pop and at the same time it's kind of dirty. I imagine it's some awful plastic type material.
White Square on the back that I might put an IV on. Guns will be given Iron Warriors style Hazard Markings. These could be used as Chaos Cultists in 40K or as Imperial Guard in 40K or Imperial Conscripts in 30K a very versatile box.
The Sergeants gets a special hat that came in the box but still have a collar. I cut the two heads off and glued them together, a simple conversion but I think it looks good. The Chainswords are the ones that come with Mk III Marines.
Based in the same way as the Marines, you can see some of the orange bleeding coming through two solid layers.
I painted up a Rogue Psyker in the same prison colours.
I took off the Aquilla and left him with an eye that works for a Warmaster;s symbol
I haven't finished them all yet, here's a sniper, cloak made from wet toilet paper coated in PVA. More on them later.
