The Grimdark Trench Crusade Miniatures Range Hits Kickstarter
July 21, 2022 by brennon
The artwork of Michael Franchina mixes with the sculpting of James Sherriff as part of this new project, Trench Crusade, which is now up on Kickstarter. The aim is to create a fascinating range of 32mm scale miniatures for your grimdark wargames.

Some background on this world and what has inspired both the artwork and miniatures...
"During the First Crusade the Knights Templar discovered a demonic artefact beneath Jerusalem. In their blind hubris they were corrupted by it, thus becoming the first heretics, turning the Holy City into a depraved pit where Hell and our mortal plane now bleed into each other. The Church has been trying to retake the Holy City for the past thousand years, and the crusade has now progressed to more modern weaponry."
A properly grimdark bit of lore to get you invested. With that as the backbone of this new world, Franchina's artwork has been turned into miniatures by Sherriff with the first of them being the Communicant and the Ammo Monk.
Communicant & Ammo Monk Unpainted // James Sherriff
As you can see, the Communicant is a towering mix of the synthetic and the organic carrying around a hefty machine gun. The Ammo Monk is then dwarfed by the warrior that it supports on the battlefield, lugging around more ammo for it to use in the heat of the moment.

I really like the idea of mixing together the Medieval aesthetic with something of World War I/II. It works really nicely and I think these are going to be really fun miniatures to paint. I would love to see someone doing all of the scroll work and tattoos on the Communicant.
When you pledge for these miniatures, you'll be getting both the Communicant and the Ammo Monk in SioCast, brought to life by the folks at Zealot Miniatures. The focus is on delivering the project by November/December this year.

There are also Stretch Goals which include concept artwork and a new miniature, the Combat Medic. The Medieval/Pulp vibes continue with her and hopefully, more will be in the works if they get additional funding.
Are you tempted by these new miniatures?
