Chaos Cultists & Their Dark Masters Come To 40K This Weekend
July 20, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has introduced a new set of Chaos miniatures for Warhammer 40,000 that will be available to pre-order this weekend. The new Chaos Cultists are going to be hitting the tabletop, enabling you to run a warband of twisted mortals, tainted by the Dark Gods.

The new set of Chaos Cultists will work as a decent Troop choice during your games of Warhammer 40,000. They might not be as heavily armed and armoured as the Traitor Legions but you can get a lot of them on the tabletop. Sometimes the weight of numbers can turn the tide.
They come armed with a mix of pistols and hand weapons and whilst they are probably not going to live long, they will at least have died in service of one of the Chaos Gods. They might even hold a few objectives for a little while whilst they perish.
Leading your mortals into the fray, there is also the brand new Dark Commune set.
Dark Commune // Warhammer 40,000
Made up of powerful psykers that can channel the power of The Warp and guarded by two martial retainers, this is going to be a pretty good option for those who want to embrace Chaos in a little bit of a different way. I think this and the Chaos Cultists we saw above, are some of the best miniatures we've seen for Chaos in a while and I would love to do a full-on Cult army for Warhammer 40,000.
It seems like that isn't quite a reality though. You will need to at least take a few power-armoured individuals in your army if you want it to fit the rules. But, I'm sure that no one would begrudge you tweaking things so you could have just mortal Cultists and their leaders on the tabletop? Right?
I still really like the idea of an army of Cultists led by the one Dark Apostle, the only power-armoured individual in your entire force. I think that would look awesome.
More Twisted Chaos Servants
As well as the new mortals, we also have a selection of Chaos Space Marines hitting the webstore this week. For example, the Eldrich Omens Warpsmith is now going to be available separately.

This fellow can then be backed up by some Warpforged individuals who could perhaps use his expert eye to guide them into the fray. This set comes with two fearsome Obliterators and the Venomcrawler.

If you like the idea of burying your enemy under a terrifying amount of withering firepower then this might be worth a shout. I do like the Venomcrawler in particular. I think it is suitably creepy and weird and just the right fusion of synthetic and organic.
There is also a set of Chaos Chosen, the best of the best, that can be used to stride into battle alongside your Warlord.

These Chosen are customisable according to Warhammer Community so that's a boon. I'm sure that everyone will want to make sure they are armed with the most meta-appropriate weapons.
I think Chaos has had a real glow-up over the last few months and they are becoming a very tempting army to collect. They seem to embody the aesthetic of Warhammer 40,000 across their entire range and it's often good fun to be evil. Hobbyists could have a lot of fun with the new range, especially with a bit of kitbashing to make them unique to you.
Are you tempted by these new Chaos offerings?

I like em. Keep it weird, chaos!
Those are very nice.
Is it just me or do the cultists look like a fab mad Max (Necromunda) war party.
Exactly what I thought @zorg
I like the older cultists. They looked more like the actual dregs of the Imperium, people so tired of being ground by the galactic war machine they chose the damnation of the dark gods just for a chance to strike back.
These new versions just don’t have the pathos.
