Expand Your Roman Outpost With Irongames’ Discordia Board Game
July 15, 2022 by brennon
Irongames has been showing off the first few glimpses of a brand new Historical board game which takes place on the Roman frontier. Discordia sees you trying to build up a Roman outpost into a flourishing city whilst also holding off Germanic invaders.
Discordia // Irongames
You will take on the role of one of the governors of those out frontier cities. Not only do you have to deal with the issues surrounding building up a city though as Empress Agrippina and her son Nero will also be inspecting your actions and giving their favour to those who have done the best job.
Discordia Gameplay // Irongames
Using dice-rolling and variable player powers and board powers, you will be developing your city through the building of farms, barracks, defensive walls, harbours and markets. You will also be seeking to begin trading and placing your seamen, soldiers, merchants and farmers in the right place to get the most from your actions.
Discordia Components // Irongames
You will need to try and manage the growth of your city, allowing it to grow neither too fast nor too slow. As your city expands and new elements are added to it, you'll then unlock more actions that allow you to do more and get more of those precious victory points. If you have the best-developed city by the end of the fourth year then you will win. Or, you can gain the favour of the Empress and win early!
With gameplay time coming in somewhere between sixty and ninety minutes, this seems like a good mid-weight game for your collection. Additionally, if you'd like to know more then you can check out the Discordia Rulebook (Early Version) and get your head around the rules proper.
Are you tempted to snap this one up later this year?

Sounds good city building can be fun.
Surely Vesta would be a more appropriate name for this game.
