Jaws Of The Lion by flatbattery

First up this week, we're going to be checking out some awesome heroes painted up for Jaws Of The Lion, the prequel board game for Gloomhaven. flatbattery has been working on the four characters that you get to play as in the game.

I liked the painting of these miniatures as a baseline but the real skill here comes in picking out the details as flatbattery has done. These models aren't the best detailed and so being able to pick out all of the little nuances here and there is a real skill. I think that's especially the case with the Voidwarden above.

I also appreciated the painting of this second character, Hatchet. This is the character I played as in Jaws Of The Lion and I loved him, so, it was neat to see him painted up nicely.

Again, the details look great and I think that leatherwork is particularly awesome. When all of the miniatures have been put together as one big line-up, you get a neat sense of how they all look as a gang. I think this is great!

Again, the way the details have been picked out is very neat. It matches up well with the artwork for the different characters in-game too. Some additional highlights for me including the work on the Demonlistionist's smoke that comes from her boots and the painted eyes of the Voidwarden!

Sisters Of Battle by anzel

Next up, we're looking at the work of anzel. This was a neat project because it was focusing in on making sure that a backlog of miniatures could be cleared. This is a great use for the project system where you use it as a way of marking your progress with an army.

It helps that the look of the finished miniatures is pretty awesome. I like the black and the metallics and how that works nicely against that bright blue. The bonus bronze and gold elements then take things up a notch which is fun and draws the eye to specific portions of the miniature.

One of the other elements that totally caught my eye was the way the bases have come together. I think that's a neat way of showing off quick and easy rocky bases. It also helps to elevate the miniatures and make them feel more heroic.

I think these look fantastic and it has come together well, offering up a neat look at a battle-ready army for use in Warhammer 40,000.

I also have to give props to the work on the facial details. They have been picked out very well and there is a cap to be doffed when it comes to painting the eyes! I would love to face down this army on the tabletop.

2mm Strength & Honour by zoidpinhead

Last but not least, we're looking at a new project from zoidpinhead. This offers up a look at a somewhat old-school way of approaching wargaming with 2mm miniatures. BUT, this also offers up a look at a fun way to 3D print the miniatures needed for such a game!

After a selection of pretty unfortunate incidents with a printer, things were sorted out and these miniatures could be printed out for the purposes of painting and gaming. After the 6th print run, the details were there and they could be brought to life with Speedpaints, regular acrylics and finally some ink. I think the results look great, even if they are tiny!

The focus here is on trying to paint up a unit of troops that gives off the impression of who and what they are. I think that has been achieved and this looks a lot nicer than using blogs of putty and such with dots on the top. You still get to see the shields, weapons, head, armour and more.

What's also awesome about this project is that they have also gone to the trouble of showing off how to do the magnetic strips on the units too. A simple bit of basing makes the miniatures pop and puts them in touch with the battlefield and the statistics being right there makes them very playable too. An awesome way to show off how easy it is to get some 2mm miniatures to the tabletop with some high-tech solutions.
