Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs Of Night City Now On Kickstarter!
June 24, 2022 by fcostin
After teasing the crowdfunding campaign for Cyberpunk 2077's board game experience, CMON has now gone live with Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City. Bringing brutal gang warfare across the neon concrete jungle of Night City.
Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City // Cyberpunk 2077
Players will be fuelled by greed corruption and conquest for power, competing for territory over Night City, and battling for control over the scope. As the streets are teeming with motives for crime encouraging mass illegal activity away from the technological gaze of dystopian corporations, it's time for players to take their homes back. Whether that be by brute force or technological advancement - there are plenty of ways to bolster an army.
Gameplay Preview // Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
Each individual gang within Night City will have their own bespoke abilities to cause chaos. With the only pledge, 'Edgerunner Pledge' introducing the ruthless and violent Tiger Claws, the traditional stylings of The Valentinos, a terrifying band of metal warriors with the Maelstrom, the exclusive and secretive gang the Voodoo Boys, plus classic network hackers alike Keanu Reeves Johnny Silverhand. Each with its own bespoke hierarchy and set of skills in place, all with their matching character miniatures to portray on the tabletop.
Already surpassing the target goal initially stated at the start of the campaign, Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City - The Board Game will not just be focused on the battery between rivalling gangs. Each player will have a story to develop, which will customise each pathway that a player takes. Branching gangs into unique scenarios and situations will force players to continuously consider their output of strategy.

There are a whole host of Kickstarter exclusives as part of the camapign also included as part of the Stretch Goals, including a ton of miniatures plus tweaks to gameplay for solo mode.
The campaign has got 12 days left on the clock with one simple pledge to dip into, plus a ton of exclusive miniatures for jumping into the game during crowdfunding.
Edgerunner Miniatures Kickstarter Exclusives // Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
Given the fact that we're looking at a tabletop title here. It's doubtful this one will need a ridiculous amount of patches when it is finally released. The concept of Cyberpunk 2077 is very interesting in my eyes, I am attempting to ignore the controversy surrounding the video game release - and focus on the potential of gritty gang warfare across the light-coated city.
It's great that we're not looking at a translation of the video game, and wonderful that it seems to be an extension of the world, but for the tabletop.
What are your first impressions of Cyberpunk: 2077: Gangs of Night City?

CMON…. nah, not touching that with a 10′ stick. Also: 110USD plus 50 – 65USD shipping +19% VAT… 185,6USD at best 208,25 at worst. For a Boardgame. For real?!
yeah saw that too.
I saw one (american) kickstarter listing shipping costs for a single book(!) at 45$, which kind of makes this look ‘cheap’ as assuming it completes all stretchgoals it’s going to be a big box.
Half of the KS backers are in at $1 just so that they can add comments to warn newbies what CMON are like 🙂
Nothing in this kickstarter screams nova or preem to me. It feels more like kibble. The author of the Godfather game is listed, which confirms that it is based on similar game mechanics. Silverboy is not a netrunner/hacker … he’s a rockerboy, which is not even close to the same in gameterms. 😀 (spoiler : he’s not exactly alive as he would be 70+ during the events of the game … only the very rich and lucky ever reach that age 😛 as proven by Kerry Eurodyne and Rogue ) The camapign ( 😉 ) is using all of the… Read more »
At least we can be thankful it is not set in the garbage ‘Red’ era of the latest iteration of the once great RPG.
you sure ?
’cause I thought the videogame and rpg were set in the same timeline/era.
I like that the net isn’t simply ‘everywhere like it was in CP2020 / Shadowrun. Exposing corporate networks to the internet is such a silly thing to do no matter how good your ice is.
It seems that ‘Red’ is Mike trying to get from 2020 to 2077 so yes, they are the same timeline.
For me ‘Red’ missed the mark on almost every level. It just seems to me that it is an RPG stuck with all the worst elements of the 2020 design coupled with a load of lore changes that make no sense to me whatsoever.
looks interesting.
It looks a decent game and I really like the models. The price looks reasonable at 110 dollars or 90 pounds until you get to the small detail. In the UK you need to add 68 dollars shipping cost ? I dont know how a 110 dollar item costs over half its value to ship that is insane. Then you have to add VAT at 20% which would take it to 213 dollars or 173 pounds.
It does not look like a 173 pound game. I hope it will come to retail and be closer to the 100 -120 pound mark
the retail version won’t have those kickstarter exclusive minis.
And to be honest … those edgerunner minis are the best thing in the game.
At least we’ve got the skirmishgame that also has more gangs (including Bozos 😀 )
Sheesh, when will this madness end? £90 for a basic area control game, with £60 shipping to the UK and VAT on top as well.
The high cost is down to the CMON obsession with plastic when standees or tokens would work just as well.
If you have money to burn then jump on the hype train, but I cannot see much value in this game.
And made in China so…no thanks.
Do you really believe it would be cheaper if made in the EU or UK? I find most people like the idea and most people would not accept the high cost and lower quality if made outside of China.
Yes.
@turbocooler
Archon Studios (Dungeons&Lasers + Rampart terrain) produce their minis in Poland …
And with the current unpredictable shipping costs it may not be as cheap to produce plastics in China as it used to be, unless you’re GW and take advantage of volume.
GW manufacture in the UK.
> Archon Studios (Dungeons&Lasers + Rampart terrain) produce their minis in Poland …
fwiw, Both Archon (EU) and CMON (USA) have the rights to Masters of the Universe, so you can see a real-life example of some of the differences. Of course, one’s a hobby company, and the other is a boardgame one. I think the Archon boardgame is more expensive “for what you get” compared to CMON, but if anyone can take a closer look and comment, I’m sorta interested. Dakka has some comparisons, but the thread sorta died out?
make no mistake both want to make a profit …
CMON is slightly more experienced at shoveling plastic crack in cardboard boxes.
And it is an external IP for both, so they aren’t as in control of their product as they would be with their own stuff.
@tankkommander : the motto of Cyberpunk is style over substance …
So it kind of fits the theme to have a lot of flashy extras in this game 😉
A meeple/counter only game would definitely work, but it wouldn’t have the cyberpunk style.
I must admit that I’m at a loss to explain the need for all those plastic character minis within the context of a mere area control game.
It can only be justified by the typical CMON KS marketing. It also means, with all those KS exclusives, that the game is DOA and not viable at retail. As a game designer I hope they like seeing a game that will never get to the mass market.
I can’t see any reason why the core game would be DOA, because it will sell due to the name/branding. The (CMON) kickstarter exclusives in general don’t tend to dramatically alter the gameplay and tend to be pure visual. I do suspect their game designers feel the pain of never ever getting those bits to in a bigger community, but then I suspect that at that level you’re happy to have a job and aren’t in it to see your name in shops/reviews. Heck … none are mentioned by name and . Also keep in mind that those asssets are… Read more »
One of the best games I own is Dogs of War by Paolo Mori.
Unfortunately because of the ridiculous over production by CMON this game was DOA. People who want it have to resort to PNP versions.
CMON is the place that great games go to die.
IIRC, The retail version will have (more) standees or something. The game designer notes say the game was influenced by Godfather (while backers say it’s not like Godfather) so, if you’re looking for an Eric Lang game, then… Godfather? 😛 CMON fanboys love the miniatures so that’s most of CMON’s business model. I backed Undead or Alive for the mini’s for other western games, because other western games only had resin and metal miniatures. Some CP2077 backers are backing for the miniatures for Cyberpunk Red, whose miniatures are in metal and thus still more expensive. If you want CMON to… Read more »
Eric Lang is mentioned for this one as well, but he left CMON (september 2020) … which kind of makes me wonder if he is going to be listed as an inspiration for this one at all. VAT isn’t completely beyond CMON’s control … Amazon lists a threshold of 135 Pounds (total value excl. VAT) for products. Which technically means that if they made a cheaper game then they wouldn’t have to add VAT. Books also have different VAT compared to ‘normal’ products, which kind of creates the option of having to pay less VAT by picking a rulebook only… Read more »
I remember I had the 1st edition RPG….google check…it was 1988…!
Cyberpunk 2013 was the 1st edition. Followed by 2020 as the 2nd edition.
