Hoard Nuts And Build Nests In Nut Hunt On Kickstarter
June 9, 2022 by fcostin
Squirrels are territorial little bleeders. Don't let those fluffy tails and chubby cheeks fool you, they will do whatever it takes to hoard their treasure trove of nuts into a comfortable royal nesting space.
Nut Hunt is up on Kickstarter, putting devious squirrels at the forefront of their own board game title. Claiming dominance over the forest, and being one step ahead of lurking foxes!
Nut Hunt // Pine Island Games
1-5 players are going to be taking the roles of busy-body squirrels, hoping to get to know the lay of the land and prop down some nests to stop their nuts from getting nibbled by predators. In a game of area control, players will be darting around to different locations on the hex map, hoping to score some prime nest real estate.
To add some extra tension to the game, a roaming fox will be keeping an eye on players' whereabouts to do anything to thwart the growth of players' squirrel empire. As players must retreat and escape to adjacent hexes when linked eye-to-eye with the predator, which can come in handy if used correctly. Consequently causes chaos to opponents' hunts and provides a fresh chance to reach new locations.
Inside the Box // Nut Hunt
As the goal of the game is to erect nests, players will work hard at ensuring their nutty troops are under control. As nests are formed as soon as three squirrels are under the same game plan within one territory. As soon as a player has formed their fourth nest - they will be crowned King of Forest.
With the chance for this game to be a wonderful family experience, the game really does have some in-depth strategy and stabby mechanics. I can imagine a game of Nut Hunt around my table would a bit nasty. Especially once players get comfortable guiding the fox in the direction of opponent doom!
The Kickstarter itself was funded on the first day of being live. There are 21 days left on the clock with one simple pledge to tap into. There are a few stretch goals which add quality of life improvements, alongside some to still be announced.
I said the word squirrel far too many times to not summon a Gerry.
