CMON has been busy, after the successful campaign on Kickstarter for Household. We see a new game on the horizon and heading over to crowdfunding, taking us into an already familiar IP. Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its own board game title, placing players dead centre of gang warfare in the vivid techno-punk atmosphere in Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City.

Gangs of Night City will be placing players into an area of control, they will be heading out and exploring the city flexing their manufactured abilities. Continuing over the themes of desperation in a dystopian poverty-stricken City, run by greed corruption and conquest for power.

This will be no cooperative task, as mediocrity will not survive being a dog-eat-dog world; only one player can become victorious by the end of the game. As players will be expected to go about their game on the street, they will be earning Street Cred which will be the determining factor in winning the game.

It seems that players will be taking the role of a diverse set of gangs that dwell on the streets. Each has its own bespoke hierarchy and set of skills in place. In hopes to take, claim and fight for control over the district.

"Each unit type had their own unique aspects and capabilities. Solos are combat ready and can initiate firefights. Netrunners diving into the Net was an obvious given. Techies were a little more nuanced, where their role was focused on Drones and engineering." - CMON

The board game seems to have been heavily influenced by the video game, with references and nods to familiar characters and places, being set prior to the events of Cyberpunk 2077.

Although there is not too much information released, CMON has put out some designer diaries regarding its creation if you would like to read more on the nitty-gritty. Including the early stages of board development, and the unfairness that players can face in the unforgiving concrete jungle.

If you are interested in Gangs of Night City, be sure to keep an eye on the CMON News Blog, as they will be updating their community with movements in the title prior to the Kickstarter, apparently to be "soon".

What do you think of a Cyberpunk 2077 board game?
