The Ironkin Join The Warhammer 40,000 Leagues Of Votann
June 7, 2022 by brennon
The Leagues Of Votann continue to get previews from Games Workshop ahead of their release for Warhammer 40,000. Whilst many of their kin are flesh and blood, some of their numbers are synthetic in nature. Enter the Ironkin.

The Ironkin are true mechanical intellects that were created by the Votann. They consist of a Cerebral Unit that is very hard to destroy which is then housed within a mechanical body. The Ironkin pursue as many different career paths as their flesh and blood kin, finding themselves fighting as shock troopers, lugging cargo around transport hubs and even piloting the fighter craft of the Leagues.

As well as that, some of the Ironkin are also capable of plotting pathways through The Warp. You'll no doubt have noted that the look of these Ironkin isn't far off the designs that are used by the Adeptus Mechanicus. In a difference from their larger robot kin amongst the Mechanicus, the Ironkin have personalities and "emotions" which I'm sure would make many an Imperial official bristle.
You'll also note that this matches up interestingly with the prevalence of drone usage amongst the T'au. Could this be an interesting link to the Demiurge that form part of the T'au Empire, an offshoot of the Leagues Of Votann?
Once again, I'm sure that the Imperium would have a few things to say about the Leagues teaching other factions how to use their powerful technology. I guess when you're as good at your job as the Votann, you offer up your skills to those who can pay.
A neat look at what's coming up for the Leagues Of Votann!

That looks strange an reminds me of a deepsea diver off to weld pipe or something.
Well it’s reminiscent of these guys https://www.games-workshop.com/Kastelan-Robots-2017 and this guy https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/UR-025.
Which fits both are ancient tech and UR-025 is a Man of Iron and the new guy is a Ironkin.
Yup it sure does.
That looks really nice.
The more I see of the models the less keen I am on them. It is a nice model but nothing about it suggests squats or dwarfs. As mentioned they look more Admech then anything unqiue. Trying to bring back the squats are biker gangs perhaps never on the cards but I hoped they would retain a dwarf feel like they did with the Kharadron Overlords. Maybe over time my view will change but each release we see is more bland than the last. Getting to the crux of the issue if you going to do dwarfs things have to… Read more »
I hated it at first, but the more I see it, the more I’ve talked about the lore article with friends, the more I’ve loved these dorky robots who wear pointless gloves and tools to help fit in with their space dwarf friends.
I feel the domed head piece is a bit of a cop out design wise. There’s so much potential in this release and ive yet to see a model that has got me excited for the release.
Most 40k stuff is just treadmill of recycled content, but when the team is allowed to do something new, it’s usually interesting in some way. I love these non-stupid humans, both fleshy and digital.
I was never the target audience for Squats. When the fist Votann art work came out I was pleasantly surprised. Since the first models were revealed though, no this really isn’t my faction.
