So here’s the thing, honestly I enjoy watching woodworking channels I follow quite a few of them from beginning to stuff I would never dare try but until recent years I hadn’t actually started stuff for myself again, the first I should thank here is a friend of mine, not a hobby friend either but a motorcycle buddy of mine I used to work with, without his help the two projects I have completed would look nearly as good. So thank you Adam.

So when it comes to inspiration my first is more of a recommendation than an actual game table especially if your new to woodworking and that us Steve Ramsay of Woodworking for Mere Mortals. He’s one of the OGs of YouTube as far as I know but his channel is specifically targeted at new woodworkers. He also runs online courses as well but we’re not here to talk about that. The video linked is a project vlog from 2017 where he built a regular dining table

So there’s only do much that I can actually draw from this particular video l, the design itself obviously doesn’t lend itself to the idea I gave in mind give J want a vault within mine but largely I revisited this a number of times to worm out ways to get the legs to work and remain stable (which is a big problem with our current table)

From here the videos will become far more specific when I bring them up and if you’ve ever looked into these yourself you’ll probably have some guesses but the first I want to mention is a video from The Wood Whisperer. This design is very high end and clearly from a woodworker with years of experience more than I have but it’s an incredible design. I do love the look. Of the table but there’s things I want to do that this doesn’t allow without me building my skills further

But the design moves from there as an Australian man near me actually modified the design for himself  using the same wood type I’ve been planning to use.

I could very easily have slipped one of these but there are differences and options are never a bad thing. These two designs showed me another way of achieving the modular accessories but I felt the way they were done here was outside of my skillset.

The first thing I need to say about this next video is that Fisher is extremely entertaining, this is just a coffee table but it obviously still applies, you just need to scale it up if this is the design you’d like to follow. Walnut looks amazing but pretty much inaccessible here, hell in America it’s expensive enough sourcing it here is just never happening.

Okay so gaming tables do exist, we all know this but they’re very much a luxury item, this isn’t something any of us need but the want grows. But Jason I hear you asking, what kinds of products are out there?

GeekNSon

Monty Hall Gaming

Rathskellers

Wyrmwood Gaming

Now all 4 of these companies have incredible products, some are very well known some less so, some have been sponsors of big YouTube personalities others haven’t. If you go to a game convention you’ll see companies like these seeking out those with the budget to buy something like this. It’s a dream purchase but also one not all of us can afford.

One final inspiration.. The Modular Game Table

This story was one of the largest Kickstarter in history, that large and that popular that it took down the Kickstarter page itself due to everyone trying to get in on the earliest pledge possible, probably the first gaming furniture of its kind that was accessible to those with a smaller budget, it allowed so much including upgrading the table later as your needs changed but obviously shipping something of that magnitude to Australia was a problem in and of itself but as far as inspiration is concerned this is the project that let me see it was time to get off my butt and actually do this. There’s way too many videos that I could share on this but the one I’m sharing is one the earlier videos before the campaign was live.

In my next post I will finally show you my actual design (which may have changed again slightly since I started writing this project blog. Big things to note, my design will NOT be modular or break down as theirs does, I don’t NEED that. This video talk through their accessories but it’s the table itself we’re looking at, the magnetic rail system. The ability to make accessories the design of HOW it all works in its design. This video for me connected a lot of dots.

So there you, everything I could think of that inspired my ideas all in one update so that Noone can claim I knowingly stole ideas and didn’t give credit.

I leave you with the Wyrmwood video in question
