Community Spotlight: Oldhammer, MORE Tiny Elves & Dead Man’s Hand!
May 25, 2022 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We're going to be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...make sure to always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Spring Cleaning Oldhammer by scribbs
We get stuck back into some Community Spotlight with a look at some Oldhammer to kick things off. scribbs has been tinkering away in the background on a bit of spring cleaning and that involves awesome old school Warhammer miniatures.
The most recent bout of painting shenanigans has been focused on painting up some gnarly Orcs including this impressive Orc warlord. The work on this fellow is fantastic and I love the paint on the Orcish green skin and the horns that stick out from the helmet. Match that with the array of skulls and skull-based apparel on show and you've got a very Warhammer miniature.
The two additional Orcs that are going to be watching over him as bodyguards are equally as awesome. This trio of Orcs have come from Lair Of The Orc Lord which was one of the Warhammer Quest expansions, hence the way that the bases have been painted. An excellent pairing.
Another Warhammer Quest character that has recently been painted up is this cunning Witch Hunter. Sculpted by Gary Morley, it's neat to see another one of these classic miniatures making it back to the tabletop with a fresh new paint job.
There is much more to get stuck into from scribbs, especially if you like your Warhammer Quest/Oldhammer miniatures. A few more have been teased that are going to be getting an update so watch this space! A Wizard and an Imperial Noble are on the cards.
10mm Elves by firelock22
Next up, we're going Warhammer adjacent. Here we have some Warmaster-ish goodness from firelock22 who has been showing off the work on their 10mm Elves that were picked up from Forest Dragon 3D, printed by MGS Miniatures.
I am constantly in love with seeing amazing miniatures painted in a small scale like this. I think firelock22 has done a sterling job on these miniatures, especially when looking at the High Elf Lord, the Dragon and the Mage. I think the amount of details in those sculpts is stunning and I really liked the work on the dragon's scales in particular.
What is also neat is that firelock22 has gone to the trouble of putting these miniatures into a fun scenic setting before taking the final photos. I think it really shows off how impressive these miniatures are and how grand things will look when they are fully arrayed on the tabletop.
There is a neat breakdown looking at each of the units/characters in more detail over on the project and I would love to see firelock22 expand this out and show us some battle reports. Hopefully, this won't be the only 10mm army that firelock22 paints. I think the work on these Elves is great and they clearly need some Dwarfs to fight!
Dead Man's Hand by dugthefug1644
Last but not least, we're looking at the work of dugthefug1644 who has been painting up some Dead Man's Hand gang members for a shoot out in the Wild West.
The basis of these miniatures focused on the plastic kit from Great Escape Games and I think the variety here shows off just what you can do with those miniatures. As is the way with dugthefug1644, they go all out when it comes to not only the painting but the background of each of their characters. So, you can check out the project which focuses in on their backstory!
You can find out about the dastardly desperado known as Felipe Gonzalez, or maybe get explosive with the aptly named Calamity Kelly. Don't be near him when the fires start to rage across the township.
All of the different characters have been showcased in great detail and dugthefug1644 has even gone to the trouble of putting together little snippets of information on how they managed to paint things like the animal hide trousers. This is another very in-depth project from dugthefug1644 and I can't wait to see what else gets added into the mix.

The Oldhammer is the one really pushing my buttons but three dashed lovely projects. You may all bathe in my envy ??
Nice work. Extra kudos to the sprue kakti
Let the Tinies rule the world!!!!
Thanks all, those WH Quest minis are awesome.. the other ‘game that got away!’
Wonderful work
Thanks very much for the Golden Button. It’s been a lot of fun digging out models that have been left unpainted for about 25 years.
Two other great projects as well. I love Doug’s creativity and the speed at which he works is incredible. I love the 10mm stuff, and have a few skaven from the same printer that Firelock used awaiting some attention in due course.
What better way to raise a horde for the Horned Rat than in a truly epic scale!
Great work everybody. Love the Oldhammer @scribbs. Great idea for the bases.
Cheers. It was a bit of an experiment that I tried with another model in the project, simply as I didn’t have a clue what to do with the basing. Quite fast and easy to do, can scale the squares/alter shape for cobbles etc.
Brilliant stuff all round! ???
Wow! That “not-Tyrion” looks spectacular in 10m!
Top notch job on Elves and Dragon!
Absolutely NOT Tyrion at all.. no sir, nothing to see here;)
Legally different!
Some truly awe inspiring miniature painting there. Wonderful projects all! Makes my painting fingers itchy to dip into some paints.
