Andy Hobday of Warhost has been sharing more amazing Paul Hicks sculpts ahead of the Outremer Kickstarter for The Barons' War. It's becoming very tempting to dive deep into a big Historical Crusader-based adventure on Thursday 8th May.

Barons War Outremer

Barons' War Outremer // Warhost

We've seen some previews already but now a (war)host of previews have appeared along with some painted examples as well, and we're going to kick it off with the defenders of the Holy Land the forces of Al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub.

Barons War Outremer Iman

Like the priests that accompanied the European forces, the Imam would lead the prayers of the Muslim warriors. A beautiful sculpt both mounted and on foot it will find its way into many forces. I like to see the non-combatants sculpted with a bit of vim about them and he is certainly extolling the troops to do the needful against the invaders.

Barons' War Outremer // Ayyubid Spear

Ayyubid Infantry the mainstay of Saladin's army are looking fantastic. A nice blend of outfits from the full length robes of the deep desert through to shorter quilted jerkins. It gives the packs a great variety with a simple change in colours and shields. I'm still not a fan of cast spears but they can go onto bases as scatter.

Barons War Outremer Ayyubid Archers

Barons' War Outremer // Ayyubid Archers

The archers are so important to many forces and in the parched lands over the sea being able to engage and harry your opponent from range is key. Don't worry there are plenty of mounted archers coming in this campaign as well with a Seljuk look about them.

Barons War Outremer Knight of St John Leader

Barons' War Outremer // Knight of St John Retinue Leader

The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem was the second-best of the Catholic military orders in the holy land but you can't have everything #Templar For Life. That aside we have another character, Preceptor perhaps, available as both infantry and cavalry again it's a very characterful model of a fighter who has been in the Holy Lands long enough to have that veteran look of a ragged monk.

Paul Hicks has done some lovely work on the sculpts they all have the look of individuals, and every face has a character and uniqueness behind it that tells a story of pain, suffering, and loss in the heat of the Crusader States. While made for the Second Crusade the figures work equally well across the 12th century for other conflicts in Europe.

Lion Tower Miniatures

The Kickstarter is not only about minis but there are a range of STLs from Dan Kelly at Lion Tower Miniatures with a fortification that works equally well as an outpost for the Crusader States or an Islamic staging post. The images above are not renders but test prints and you can see that they look terrific and any table would be graced by them.

Nigel Woods Exclusive Miniature

Nigel Wood has kindly offered his pledge miniature from Baron's War 3 to help with the new campaign. Nigel had a monk sculpted based on him from the last Kickstarter and will only be available for the first 24 hours as the sculpt belongs to Nigel and not to Warhost. So if you want this monk then you need to get in early after 24 hours it won't be available again for sale. I think that goes to show how much of an impact that this game has for the fans where a one-off is offered back to them to encourage others to get involved.

It's a fantastic range of minis and for anyone looking to start the Age of the Crusades for Saga, then you could do a whole lot worse than to check this line out when it goes live.
