Guillotine Games & Studio McVey Team Up For Blood Rage
December 10, 2014 by brennon
Blood Rage is another new project from the teams at Guillotine Games and Studio McVey with the help of both Adrian Smith (one of my favourite artists) and Eric M. Lang who is a great game creator. See what you think...
The low down on the game...
The game comes with some neat looking miniatures spurred on by the artwork by Adrian Smith. See what you think...
Each of the different clans comes will be lead by one of the mighty Gods from Valhalla. Oh, if I hadn't mentioned this before the entire game is focused on the Vikings and the age of Ragnarok as it swallows up our world of Midgard. The sculpts are looking amazing and it will be awesome to see where this goes from here.
The other project, The Others, appears to still be going on behind the scenes and I think we're going to be seeing a lot of different projects from this team of creatives.
What do you think?

My guess is that from the looks of the minis, it’ll be a boardgame. It doesn’t grab me as much as The Others, but I’m definitely interested.
I think this looks awesome! I have always had a soft spot for studio McVey
I like the minis a lot… I hope they don’t ruin the quality like for their last boardgame. From McVey, I’m only taking premium quality cast, as anything lower would be a crime against Art !
Do you mean Sedition Wars? I have on the mini for The Others, it came pre-assembled with an integral base and is made of a softer plastic than the SW minis. The detail is good and there are no mould lines.
Sedition wars, yes… That was a bit of a disgrace, especially comparing with the proper minis.
I also got a good look at the mini they had for The Others. It was cast super well- great detail, way better than anything I’ve seen in PVC. I also got to see a resin version (painted) side by side, and I honestly can tell you that I couldn’t find a difference in detail (I really looked). I also got to talk to Mike McVey- they got a new caster for The Others, and he was impressed enough with the results that I can’t imagine them going back to the guys that cast the Sedition Wars stuff. So, yeah-… Read more »
Freezing cold need a big thick warm fur hat and cloak to keep warm and a bikini.
To be fair the blokes are half nakee as well.
Surprised their mothers let them go out without a vest and a scarf at least.
Wish the Frost giant’s arms were not so big, but the sculptor has done a grand job of realising some otherwise super artwork.
Can’t really go wrong with Studio McVey
Agree with all of the above. Getting harder to find good clothed female sculpts.
Hey its epic viking style – fyi we do walk around bare chested in scandinavia & wrestle polar bears 😉
… but yum this looks awesome, lets hope they dont mess it up with wrong myths & crappy gameplay
Brrrrrrr
Who needs armour anyway when you have a chest of steel with hardened frost coated nipples! lol
Not for wimps like me. Thermal undies and many layers of clothing required!
Speaking as a Geordie, they seem overdressed to me…..

Townies everywhere. Have seen similar in Brum and Barnsley.
White stilettos, no tights and legs purple with the cold.
and that’s just the blokes,
vikings, snow, ragnarok,….oh please let it be a miniatures game and please give me a reason to buy this one and to use it with the game: http://www.4ground.co.uk/Default.aspx?page=268&pid=979
and of course all the other fine viking themed buildings. have to read the ‘the 13th warrior’ again.
The first piece of artwork is superb. I can go with bare-chested Viking berserkers of either gender, but the bottom piece with the chainmail bikini is just awful, pinup nonsense.
Aww c’mon!
One has to look one’s hottest for the Ragnorak Ball! 😛
Yeah, but you can look hot and believable. To me the woman in the top image looks quite hot for a semi-psychopathic berserk warrior, whereas the woman in the bottom pic looks like she’s modelling one of the rejected costume designs for an early Kate Bush video.
If only she had taken her time to pin up her clothes, they wouldn’t have fallen off
Sadly she also has a problem with her hips and abdomen.
Hear hear…
Another Game I desire greatly. They must has sensed that I have been on a viking kick lately after coming up with a viking themed D&D campaign one night in my dreams (I must preface this by saying I was captivated by redbox games recent kickstarter).
I am really becoming a huge fan of mr Smith’s work… he’s knocking them out of the park!!
Damn, can they just sell this as a set of models and an artbook? I don’t really want to buy another boardgame, just because I like the artist, and end up not playing it.
Even if it is a boardgame I would imagine you’d be able to buy at least some of the minis separately.
Yeah sure. Maybe I’m too pessimistic, maybe the game will be interesting as well…
And another thing, the Facebook page clearly states: “Blood Rage is an epic Viking BOARD GAME of pillaging, fighting and questing for 2-4 Players”.

The final figure looks like a member of Thulsa Doom’s army of cultists from the original 1982 Arnie the Barbarian. She has the double-headed snake iconography on the staff/standard and her sword, as well as the fur lined helmet. Sven-Ole Thorsen’s sister?
Not a fan of the chainmaille bikini (cold metal on skin is a great recipe for frost-bite no matter how tough one is).
Yup, she could end up with a lot of tongues stuck to her chainmail. Of course, I guess she could just lop them off.
Of course there was no waxing for the bikini line back in the Dark Ages, but chainmail was an excellent way to get a Brrrzilian
How did I know that was coming @chibi 🙂
erm… runes?
Vikings, warring gods, all based around Ragnarok? I’m definitely in.
Love the frost giant.
Vikings? There wasn’t a single viking on any concept art or cast mini here, they are all good looking fantasy barbarians. Vikings…lol.
Celts, is what I meant. No need to be rude. They are sporting Celtic style engravings. Not only that its a fantasy race that has clearly been influenced by multiple cultures like Celts, Vikings, Norse, and a bit of Saxon in there. All the cultures that were considered to be, you know, barbarians. I suppose I was a little excited at seeing some well done stuff and jumped the gun a bit.
Thats a unique take on the frost giant. You could say its a troll or ogre depending on the game you add it to.
Very nice combination of talent. I will definitely keep an eye out how it develops.
