Roknaut Out With A New Set Of Space Dwarfs From Ontos Games
April 26, 2022 by avernos
Chris Webb, or Curis as he is known on the site, has launched his first Kickstarter campaign to launch a set of space dwarfs inspired by his love of the Old Hammer aesthetic.
Roknaut // Ontos Games
As Chris has said he's "poured every ounce of my heart and soul into sculpting a range of 1990s style Space Dwarf miniatures. I have made the graphics as inhumanely retro as possible." As you can see above and I think we all agree he has certainly hit that goal. The campaign is for a squad of five resin cast sci-fi dwarfs. The first wave due for shipping in June has already sold out with the September wave filling up fast as I write this.
The squad consists of a leader who is both helmetless and pointing so we know he is definitely in charge! A shoulder-mounted support weapon and three additional wounds... I mean squad members. The sculpts are beautiful and while they have that nostalgia hit from the golden age they also have the crisp detail that people expect from modern castings. The Nordic influence is unmistakable from the spectacled style helm to their rune encrusted weapons and that has been matched with a classic quilted jerkin and some elaborate beard plaiting and jewellery.
For fans of the vertically challenged, these are an absolute gem and I definitely expect to see these roaming about on war-torn battlefields in the near future. There are plenty of sci-fi games that these can drop into from the super agnostic Stargrave, to rocking these in games of Rogue Trader or whamster 40K. So why not go over and show some support to one of our community and if you haven't you should go and take a look at his project and his blog.
Ben is missing this!

I has #2! I get my dwarves before @brennon HAH!
Vea Australia?
No, Ukraine…. oh….
Lol genuine battle damage?
They are somehow cute
Can be argued that what GW has shown on the new sqauts are probably better models.
But these actually have character and look like fun to paint.
I’d actually love to have these.
Based on the size comparison these are actually dwarf sized as well. Assuming they stick to their Firgeworld size those new dwarfs will be massive
Primarised Squats?
Humans?
Look at the kickstarter it has size comparison
Stop trying to make me spend money 😀
New short marine’s for confined spaces.?
Those look really nice.
I love the look of that old school bright green basing, ahhh takes me back.
