Mythic Games are getting rared up to dive into their newest Kickstarter for Anastyr. Their big new Fantasy board game breathes new life into an older range and offers up a great cooperative experience that is a little different from your normal dungeon crawler.

Anastyr Game - Mythic Games APRIL

Anastyr Kickstarter Coming Soon // Mythic Games

In Anastyr, you are going to be diving into a cooperative board game for one-to-four players. You are seeking, in classic sword & sorcery fashion, to thwart the plans of the dreaded witch known as Anastyr! You do this with the help of six heroes who have formed together to make the Companions Of The Spear.

Throughout your travels, you will be searching for the fragments of the Amber World Spear which was used in a forgotten time to defeat the Chaos Dragon King. So far, I am getting all of the old school Fantasy adventure vibes.

Your adventures will take you through the lands of Alboraan where you will be fighting the local and untamable wildlife, warring tribes and the henchmen of Anastyr herself. Scenarios can be played out as single, stand-alone adventures for an evening OR as part of a larger campaign where your heroes will upgrade from scenario to scenario.

Konrad - Anastyr APRIL

Gameplay is powered by your deck of Technique cards. These reflect your heroes abilities and can be upgraded and updated throughout a campaign, allowing you to play out destructive combos that can shatter the resolve (and the bones) of your enemies. You'll also have to govern the Fury resource. As you might have guessed, these heroes are all slightly veering towards the "Barbarian" and when your rage amps up, you'll be able to crush your foes with devastating attacks.

One of the neat things about this particular game is that whilst you're seeing a lot of miniatures on foot here, the team at Mythic Games has totally embraced the Golden Axe vibe. Your heroes will, like the original 2011 miniatures range, be able to mount up on horses, raptors and sabre-toothed tigers! This obviously opens up a whole bunch of cool and interactive options for your games of Anastyr. And yes - that means magnetised miniatures!

Shadu - Anastyr

Talking of Golden Axe, the comparisons to that arcade classic don't stop with mounting animals. In Anastyr, the game board scrolls as you move from scene to scene. When heroes and opponents are no longer present on a board it cycles out and a new one is placed in front of the one you're currently on. This means that you get the look of an awesome video game-style scrolling environment as you rush through a constantly evolving landscape.

I think this is a super cool idea and sets the game apart from other dungeon crawler-style adventures out there. I really like that you have the background board which helps to set the scene and I appreciate that the actual mechanical elements (like spaces on the boards etc) are a little more hidden, giving things over to the awesome illustrations from Mythic Games' art team.

Undraal - Anastyr APRIL

Anastyr is, as always when it comes to a Mythic Games project, looking fantastic. The 32mm scale models are looking great and I appreciate that they are looking to do something different with the game mechanics. We've been able to get our hands on the game recently and will be putting together a video showing off gameplay next week. So, watch out for that.

The thing that has caught my eye is the fact that you can play this as one-off games rather than feeling tied into a larger campaign. That is one of the aspects of the Conan board game that I really like and it's neat to see that Anastyr is offering that up as a possibility.

You can follow the Anastyr Facebook Group for more information and previews and you can also check out the Blog where Mythic Games has been exploring the mechanics mentioned above in more detail. Don't forget to watch out for the Kickstarter launch as well!

Are you going to be diving into Anastyr?
