The Ridgehauler Rumbles Into Necromunda: Ash Wastes Soon
April 12, 2022 by brennon
The new Ash Wastes expansion for Necromunda has got a fair few folks excited, especially at the prospect of a good ol' fashioned train robbery. Well, there's no real train on the horizon BUT Games Workshop did show off the Ridgehauler which is what your gangers are going to be seeking to plunder as it powers through the wastes.

The Ash Wastes are crisscrossed with roads and tracks that are used by the Guild Of Coin to shuttle goods from one place to another. There is therefore money to be had by gangers who are willing to protect the Cargo-8 Ridgehaulers as they power across the wastes. There is equally quite a lot of coin to be made by those who can take on the challenge of stopping one of these behemoths.

These Ridgehaulers can be armed and armoured in a variety of different ways. They can equally be customised to carry all manner of different cargo types. Sometimes they will be hauling around some of the Munitorum Armoured Containers but other times, it will be ammo and other supplies which are being offered up to the various settlements deep within the Ash Wastes.

It's going to be a tough nut to crack when one of these rolls onto the tabletop. With a Toughness of around eight or nine (depending on where you hit it), you will have to bring some big weapons to knock it out of action or make sure you leap onto it and kill the driver before they reach their destination.
I am sensing that this is going to be a great vehicle kit for those looking to play out fun and cinematic adventures. Additionally, you KNOW that there are Ork collectors out there who are aching to get their grubby hands on this so they can kitbash it into a new vehicle for their clan.
Could you be tempted by the Ridgehaulers?

What I find asking myself is: will the set have two trailers or just one with build options? Will the containers be included? And will it drive or be a static piece of terrain? As I understand, Necromunda is played on a 3×3 and this “Landtrain” looks rather long’ish…
You need three mats an anything on the last mat is lost as that is moved to the front When the cargo train reached the edge of the mat ? @sundancer
The only limit is your imagination for how long you play.
Say twenty mats to the next township?
Sounds like an interesting mechanic… didn’t someone already use this kind of rule somewhere? Pretty sure I’ve read it somewhere…
I remember playing like that as a kid with a mad max type game each have a set of vehicles that can shoot or speed of to get the slow one’s out of the game.
Somehow I can’t stop thinking “Steve Jackson Games” …
Lol.
Ooh 86 so not a kid I don’t remember the chopper but this was the game or a ripoff of it.

On the 90s Launched a few magazines with extra rules called gangs war, with a lots of rules for the Ash waste and vehicles like this
Dark Future used rolling roads.
Also used in the micro machines computer games as a nostalgia point ?
A good mechanic to used occasionally
Speedfreaks uses that mechanic for one of the races. Slide the boards along the table as you go with anything on the board taken away going out of the race.
Yay Mad Max does 40K a great looking transporter just the thing for wagon train battles like in the western film’s.
Who’s going stub gun guy’s?
Want one! I’d want to de-gothify those containers though, as it’s too cool to just confine it to the grimdark.
Maybe flip the container upside down and sand down the skulls to de-gothify it.
GW worries me with their skull obsession…. Skull f***er comes to mind.
Shaving the skulls ought to be easy enough. The arched vents are the big one. Dremel will sort em ?
That’s why I suggested flipping it. Look less like arches and more like drainage pipes.
True that
Can’t you just get model containers from a hobby shop? Probably would be a lot cheaper than GW, too…
Making a non gothic container fit could be easier, you’re right
I just don’t see the point in going to GW for “non” gothic terrain. “Gothic” is their thing. I don’t necessarily like it all the time, don’t always think it’s a good thing. But, for better and for worse, it is “their thing.”
The truck and trailers look great, and aren’t covered in arches and skulls. That with a more generic sci-fi container would be the absolute business.
FWIW I like the container model, but it its place.
Just get containers from someone else

I am wondering if you can make this long enough to circle the wagons? Also does this think exist on its own? Could you kit bash some of the stealer cult bikes into something to run escort for this?
Still does remind me of the wagon trains from the amtrak wars books.
I would assume this will come in its own expansion box.
If it follows the usual cycle I would expect a big box first with everything in it and then each element available separately at a later date. Still I am not sure the raiders on the giant cockroaches would be able to stop the hauler unless there is some way for them to board and fight their way to the cab
If they have not been looking at some of GorkaMorka’s more entertaining rules for ramming & boarding opposing vehicles I will be both surprised and disappointed.
Those look really good. I hope they get beyond Thunderdome.
Although I’d really like to get my hands on that land train for Star Wars RPG battle and/or Legion… I get the feeling that the price will be very high.
Looks great!
Given the size of the model, I’d be surprised if we see GW selling it for under £150 given their pricing on similar sized models 🙁
Gonna haul some ridges?
