As far as I know, Target Games never made any miniatures for the White Star faction, I’ve ordered the sourcebook from Modiphius, anyone have any suggestions for sci-fi Russian figures ?
I have some бронепехота models – including New Siberians – but they are closer to 40 mm and would look HUGE next to the 28mm Warzone minis.
April 3, 2022 at 2:38 pm #1727011I don’t recall any of the previous Warzone ranges having a Soviet like faction. You have the usual GW based choices of Vostroyan and Valhallan Ice Warriors which will probably be around on eBay. Victoria Miniatures will have something suitable too. There is Warmachine Khador that will have plenty with a suitable look. One to think about too are the Neo-Sovs from Copplestone Castings – https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/prod.php?prod=132
April 3, 2022 at 3:27 pm #1727035Wargames atlantic should have an early 20th century russians kit soon-ish, i’d guess by the end of the year (they’re in file prep) https://wargamesatlantic.com/pages/release-schedule which you could kit bash with some of their deathfields kits or stargrave stuff depends on how the proportions look)
see if you can get hold of some dust Russians second hand
maybe warlord games wwii soviets with alternate arms from wargames atlantic (they do an accessory sprue with sf heads/arms for $6/£4 which would be cheaper than buying full box of minis just for the arm), but i’ve a feeling the warlord bodies would just be too small to look good, i’ve not seen anybody trying anything similar, you could ask on their facebook fan group if anybody has done so or has any they could try with
April 4, 2022 at 2:26 am #1727152Thanks for the suggestions, I totally forgot about Khador !
So far, their Winter Guard look like the closest match to what I have in mind, with the added advantage of being metal. I don’t even want to know what GW Ice Warriors go for on Fleabay these days.
I have tons of Witchlands minis from Alternative Armies, but they’re Napoleonic Undead…..
April 4, 2022 at 1:20 pm #1727300Scotia Grendel have the Urban War range and the Vasa faction have a Russian feel to them

April 4, 2022 at 5:08 pm #1727328Raging Heroes have some Russian-inspired troops & characters in their Kurgovna Shock Troops that might fit what you are looking for.
April 5, 2022 at 1:10 am #1727457Well I HAD to get ‘Svetlana the light of freedom’ from Raging Hormones, erm, Heroes – she’s PERFECT !
Now, where to find a life-size version….
Here’s the cover of the White Star sourcebook: https://thegaminggang.com/game-news/modiphius-releases-mutant-chronicles-white-star-sourcebook/
Looks like Imperial Russian troops ca. 1900 but with sci-fi weaponry would be ideal, Khador are still the closest match.
April 5, 2022 at 8:11 pm #1727735Well, this isn’t entirely true that there are no Warzone figures for Russians.
Actually, Dark Eden – the supplement to 1st ed Warzone introducing Tribes of Earth called them differently (whole story of tribes and the Earth was different to the Modiphious’ take). Back in 1998/99 they were called Sons of Rasputin and were most powerful of the tribes, however, they were people degenerated by constant extreme pollution of their living spaces.
The range was far from being finished, and designs were… questionable even for Warzone aesthetics, but you can still buy them from Prince August, here.
April 6, 2022 at 12:14 pm #1727873Those Sons of Rasputin don’t look Russian at all – rather more like a mix of Turkic and GW Chaos – but the Northern Sons might make some good Bauhaus militia or ‘Landwehr’.
April 27, 2022 at 7:44 pm #1732916Well, the best option would probably be Tehnolog’s 28mm modern spetsnaz with some conversion work though I don’t know how you would get them at this point.
Actually, if you don’t mind multipart plastic and going with a more earlier Tsarist theme, you might be able to use Wargame Atlantic’s Grognards, though I suppose the Cannon Fodder mixed with the Raumjäger could work for Soviet and maybe 1900 themed space Russians, and there are plenty of ushanka and cap hat head conversion bits in third party land though that can be a bit expensive.
April 28, 2022 at 2:08 am #1732949I have quite a few технолог minis, Robogear/бронепехота, as well as their 54 mm Fantasy Battle figures, many of them are very well suited for Warzone, if a little large at around 37 mm.
One of their tanks and several Raptor warwalkers will be used for Bauhaus, the Ruthenian Guards/New Siberians are PERFECT for White Star/Sons of Rasputin. Sci-Fi Russians – check.
After buying some on FlEabay a couple of years ago, I got smart and went to the source, ordering directly from Russia, which is M U C H cheaper, even the shipping costs are almost shockingly reasonable. Like surface shipping used to be in the (ahem) ‘free’ world before they got rid of that option – for reasons unknown……..other than gouging, naturally.
http://www.corfan.ru (short for ‘Corporation Fantasy’) is the manufacturer’s site, it’s in Russian only with NO allowances made for non-Russian speakers and ordering is a little clunky, because they are not set up for international business. What you have to do is email them your shopping basket, convince them that you are actually serious (no, I’m not kidding) and they will send you a PayPal invoice.
http://www.souldark.ru have a MUCH smaller selection, but their site is in English and ordering is much easier. They have a note on their home page saying that they’re shipping out as normal, should be the same for Corfan. Why shouldn’t they ? They also have a few models of interest for 40K and Battlefleet Gothic players, at prices you won’t believe…….
July 31, 2022 at 9:39 pm #1758147do you have the models from the siege of the citadel 2nd edition? White Star was a 3rd edition rpg invention and from what I hear the res nova people are looking to ignore them with their perhaps relaunch of warzone, which they are taking backwards into the realms of first edition, where as really I would of wanted them to pick up from universe under siege.
July 31, 2022 at 10:31 pm #1758159Also Modiphius are in the final stages of clearing out their Mutant Chronicles/Siege of the Citadel stock.
They now have the Tsarina up for sale seperately for £3, the Dark Legion pack that has the 3 White Star troopers for £35 (you do get a load of Dark Legion in there as well), plus a whole bunch of bundles. I won;t lie, I’m kinda jealous that the Doomtrooper pack is available for £120 as there’s a whole lot of content in there…..
July 31, 2022 at 10:46 pm #1758165Exactly, I got a copy of the dark legion set recently. Not arrived yet. Most of my wargaming now is all aimed at 6mm to 20mm but I think the Mutant Chronicles setting is so wild with the mix of noir, diesel punk and dark fantasy sci-fi. Have been trying to get the res nova facebook group going on force packs instead of those overpriced squad boxsets they were going to do before cancelling the kick starter. Hope to be able to combine that with the seige figures. To be honest in the 28mm to 32mm sci-fi realm mantic with its firefight 2 is looking to be the best game in town, which is a shame as the setting for this is more up my alley.
