Games Workshop has been working away on a new Warhammer 40,000 Codex to pack out the start of 2022. The Hive Fleets are on the move and getting ready to devour everything in their way as part of Codex: Tyranids which is lined up for release in a few weeks.

The new Codex features some immense new cover art showing a horde of Xenos beasts. As is the case with all of these new Codexes, it will come with updated rules. In this case, you'll find new Stratagems, Warlord Traits, Hive Fleet Adaptations and the return of Synaptic Link abilities. It will be interesting to see how they introduce more playstyles to the teeming Tyranid hordes.

In addition, your Hive Fleet of choice can benefit from new narrative-based Crusade rules. I imagine there are going to be some fun ways to destroy your foes and turn them into new mutations that make your alien warriors better!

Tyranids Combat Patrol

In addition to the new Codex, there will also be a bumper packed Combat Patrol for those getting started with the Tyranids.

Tyrand Combat Patrol - Warhammer 40000

Tyranid Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000

This is a BIG box that features plenty for those looking to swarm the tabletop with gribbly goodness. Leading the way is the Hive Tyranid who can be built in a number of different ways. You can give it options for melee and ranged combat plus turn it into a Winged Hive Tyrant if you like. There are also options for making it a Swarmlord.

Tyranid Warriors - Warhammer 40000

Tyranid Warriors // Warhammer 40,000

Watching over the Hive Tyrant is a set of three Tyranid Warriors. They can be bio-engineered to make them as diverse a combat option as your Hive Tyrant. They are an iconic kit that still looks ridiculously cool. Even I can say that as a sad defender of Iyanden!

Termagaunts - Warhammer 40000

Termagants // Warhammer 40,000

Capping things off is a whopping thirty Termagants (and their Ripper Swarms). It's a shame that you can't also make Hormagants with this set but the Termagants are a pretty solid option for controlling objectives, especially when you take into account some of their weapons like the fleshborer.

You could use these as three individual units in smaller games or one big swarm in a larger point game. You'd just need a few more melee-based Tyranids in the mix here to make a pretty awesome army on the tabletop.

Are you tempted by these new Tyranid offerings?
