Fallen Frontiers Enters Final Kickstarter Days [Update]
December 1, 2014 by brennon
Fallen Frontiers is heading towards it's final four days on Kickstarter with that you have another character to aim for and some more examples of both the cards in the game and how they work with the rest of the rules...
Update: The Damned have arrived for Fallen Frontiers and they're looking all kinds of cool...
More on The Damned...
The Damned is a collection of mercenary heroes that offer their “services” to multiple armies. Each one of these heroes can be used in several armies, expanding your strategic possibilities further.
Here is a list of who can fight for which army:
- Kyra “Operator 551”: Ares + Riffs + Sayx
- Zerobyte: Harvesters + Sayx
- Val’n Dorr: Riffs + Ares
...some awesome looking miniatures (and cheaper during this campaign!). I think I'd find it hard not to include these kind of bad asses in my army.
First up is Hank "Operator 323" who comes with a rather impressive hammer. We've seen this chap before but now the Hyperion troop will be heading to the battlefield...
"Hyperion troops were developed during the Ares independence war to minimize casualties against an enemy that equaled them in physical abilities and doubled them in number. Hank was the first commander of Hyperion armor deployed on a planet controlled by operators."
...and he's pretty awesome. You can find out more about his story over on the Kickstarter page. As well as the heroes the folks behind the game have talked more about how cards work in the game.
It sounds like Fallen Frontier has gone through a serious bit of testing to make sure that the rules match up in terms of quality when they sit alongside the miniatures. No point having a stunning looking range of miniatures if the rules for the game don't work very well!
Have you jumped on board this campaign?

I’m a sucker for a constructable deck of cards and have been waiting for a game to use them. Like the minis too. Can’t really afford to jump and have no space for any more games. What to do….
I’m not sold on the game, but the minis are just gorgeous. I just wish they were in a more traditional scale.
This is a real nightmare as like the idea and mini’s just not sure.
Totally agree. I love the look of some of the minis but I would want them to use alongside the rest of my collection. I don’t see the logic in making miniatures which are just slightly too big to look right next to those of other manufacturers.
sheild and hammer had me reduce my pledge considerably … will probably get some of the riffs later because they look awesome, will be nice to paint up a couple.
By “other manufacturers” do you mean GW? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Scale Games have chosen the same scale for this as Knight Models did for Batman. Both are companies that traditionally made large scale models for painting and converted them to 35mm which allowed them to compromise making them suitable for gaming with retaining the detail. It’s not unusual for games to be in a bigger scale than GW’s. Malifaux, Wild West Exodus, and the aforementioned Batman all spring to mind.
No, It’s not unusual for games to use a larger scale, but it’s also the reason I won’t be buying any Malifaux models either.
I certainly didn’t intend on suggesting you should buy any Malifaux models :). Only that it’s a GW-centric way to look at it. The trend in the market is for going larger than 28mm(-ish) and these minis in particular are being scaled down from 75mm. I can understand why a 40K (or 30K) player would want these if they were smaller.
Now the Black Sailors are completely different matter. Those minis being in a larger scale is a disgrace lol
@redben I know you didn’t suggest I should be buying Malifaux miniatures, but the truth is that I do really like Malifaux miniatures, but the one and only reason I have never bought any is the scale of them. Personally, I have very little time for hobby and I certainly don’t have time to collect and paint miniatures for several different games. Instead I have carved out my own little niche; I’ve started to spend my time converting and painting miniatures in a Horus Heresy setting at a rate of about one really interesting miniature a month. Eventually, I’ll have… Read more »
It wasn’t intended to be an accusation :). More of an explanation as to why it would make sense for Scale Games to use 35mm. Much as with the Black Sailors, I love the minis but what I would use them for and what they want them to be don’t quite mesh.
By todays standard GWs heroic scale looks pants, imo of course … most of it looks like downsized action figures from the 80s. Space marine heads are too big, legs too thin .. imperial guard feet are directly connected to the models kneecaps .. etc etc. Claiming they produce the best miniatures in the world is pure fantasy when looking at most of the competition.
Would be cool to see imperial guard in about the scale as dust models, and then have marines scaled from there … awesomesauce. Plus good skirmish rules to use them with.
@hatamoto calling it heroic “scale” is a complete misnomer if you ask me. The term says more about the proportions of the mini than the actual scale of it. I agree with you that “heroic scale” looks terrible. GW’s Cadians are some of the worst minis still in production by a major company. Space Marines are even worse, which is why I nolonger build space marines out of the box, but have started to build my own. I don’t collect GW anymore. I buy FW minis, which are much better proportioned, and build my own minis from GW bits being… Read more »
no matter if you play 40k or FW horus heresey era, youre still stuck with horrible rules … Still wondering when the full potential of wh30k and 40k will be realized
That looks interesting.
Ah there she is, Kyra, nice update.
