Mythic Games Tease New Anastyr Board Game In 2022
February 9, 2022 by brennon
Mythic Games has been teasing more artwork and miniature previews for their upcoming board game for 2022, Anastyr. This is going to be hitting Kickstarter later this year and it might seem familiar to some folks out there!
Anastyr Art // Mythic Games
Anastyr is lining up to be a board game for one-to-four players which can be played in a campaign-style affair or in one-off quests. You'll recognise the art above which is by the fantastic Wayne Reynolds who has worked on the likes of Pathfinder in the past.
We also got a look at more concept art and some of the miniature designs they have been working on...

The miniatures are looking great, as is the case with all of the Mythic Games projects, and they are certainly getting across that idea of a more "savage" Conan-esque world. The art continues that theme with monolithic landscapes that border on the uncanny in their design. It certainly looks interesting as a game world.
Why Is Anastyr Familiar?
Those of a certain vintage who remember back to the year 2012 might be aware that DUST Studios were the original creators of this world. They launched a series of 32mm miniatures back in the day that we covered in the news!
Konrad, Master Of Blades // Anastyr
The range didn't expand much with only around six or so miniatures released for the collection. But, you'll see that the aesthetic and themes have carried over into the brand new artwork and the miniature design by the team at Mythic.
Undraal, Queen Of The North // Anastyr
As a reminder, these miniatures we're showing here are NOT the miniatures from the new version of the world/game but they give you an indication as to the type of characters and foes that you're going to be meeting during your adventures.
Skoll, The Protector // Anastyr
As you can see, Konrad and Undraal are still part of the team but you've also got two more barbarians to use when you dive into combat. That's pretty much what we know about the game so far. Mythic tend to be very open with their previews for their board games so I would imagine we'll see a lot more information before the launch of the Kickstarter.
Do you remember these miniatures from back in the day?

Troll with pointy penis shaped sword… XD
I’d get to the Doc’s if it looks like them?
Gotta wonder why you would bother to wear a helmet when the rest of you is pretty much naked? And a helmet with pointless horns that will snag on your shoulder if you try and turn your head from side to side.
Oh well, good luck releasing a costly bloated ks project when the cost of living is going through the roof.
Cyberpunk rules… style over substance
His tribe did a scientific study that showed most of their soldiers wearing a cuirass, pauldrons and leggings were damaged primarily in the head, arms below the elbow and legs below the knee.
This suit of armor is the natural conclusion.
– Obviously the neck horns are to allow him to parry attacks on his shoulders by simply turning his neck. This is definitely a brilliant feat of practical engineering.
Those do look nice.
The concept art looks nice… That DUST Studios is the origin of the IP says nothing to me and I wouldn’t think to most. An outlier in a niche business. Gives some insight into how Mythic might be operating with this and Monsterpocalypse. Buying or collaborating within other settings rather than brining new ones to the market. Its pretty clear too that Mythic is dependent on bringing 3-4 of these projects to Kickstarter a year. Even if a lot of work is bought in it strikes me as unlikely that such a small company can maintain quality output.
And do you ever see anyone playing any of their past games? Or getting any buzz at all? Reviews have been luke warm to downright bad. Style over substance it seems. I agree that they appear to be a hamster on the kickstarter wheel. To be honest even if they made good games I would think twice about giving them money after they canned their UK office.
if you look at the number of games released every year a small percentage (if any) has enough momentum to make more than a few months after release. And even fewer ever crack the top 10 of popular games at any time (unless they’re extremely lucky).
It’s more visible with a company like Mythic who don’t appear to have any long term IP that can offer them a solid baseline. However it has to be said that Mythic Battles was supposed to be that long term game, but covid kind of killed that idea before it got anywhere.
It seems a bit more egregious with Mythic because they HYPE every release and then, predictably, go on to release errata and fixes and then…nothing. It seems as if each game is really a vehicle for lots of plastic crack to inflate the KS. That people keep throwing money at them just shows that some folks have a lot of spare cash.
Why a ‘gaming community’ site keeps pushing these DOA games is a bit odd.
You do understand people back for many different reasons. Backing for lots of models is literally just as valid as backing for great gameplay. I backed their Riechbuster game for the models, not the game. Joan of Arc as well, although the game has turned out to be well worth the time to learn it. So that one was a win win. As for DOA, I do not understand this need for all boardgames to have unlimited support? First of all, they released so much stuff in one go… what else do they need to do. Support after the fact… Read more »
I will look into it.
Could be an awesome source of fantasy miniatures at the very least.
They are fabulous looking.
While we’re arguing the point of the helmet, can someone please explain to me the point of the Uruk-Hai swords? The rest of the blades are already large. And why would you want a barb on a SWORD anyways? Wouldn’t making it harder to draw the sword out of someone you stabbed make it harder to defend yourself?
Oh, I remember seeing these minis years ago. I guess it has moved around publishers a bit since then, I hope it goes well for everyone involved this time.
SLAINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also take a look at the GREATES MOIVE EVER MADE MADE made made
Oh those do look n….. wait Mythic games? Nevermind. Not touching this one.
