Bob's Battletech
After a brief Hiatus!
- Well I started painting my backlog of mechs, basically a repaint of some of the Starter box and some of the Resin models I got from Poland and Russia, and then got shiney syndrome and went off to to do other projects!!!!!
Well just before xmas managed to get the latest version of the rules, and odd bits have changed since Iast updated, movement rules for hovers and they have changed some of the infantry rules .
I have been keeping an eye on the plastic stock re-appearing and managed to pick up a couple of boxes to add to painting shame, when I decided to visit Waylands Forge in Brum, mainly to get paint Brushs! and well erm, dont ask, but 6 more boxeds of mechs brought!
Oh ands I found a pack of grey Death Legion Powered Armour when looking for something totally unrelated . I already have a platoon of Davion Jump Infantry and some Arteus Battle Armour painted up (The later as Word of Blake)
Plan is to paint a couple of Lances of Inner Sphere, then a couple of Stars of Clan.
All the Inner Sphere, Comstar, and 2nd Line Clan mechs will painted as 101st, or Knights Mercian in their return to Star Leagues Green scheme, which the units converted to on the formation of 2nd Star League in 3058. In so doing they will match most of the Battletech vehicles I painted over the years.
Question which Clan was I going to do, no way doing Jade Falcons (bloody Pychos) and have Tex’s aversion to Clanners, I did umm and arr’d over Wolf Clan as they have a nice base paint scheme but decided on Ghost Bear. Jim Oriskanys’s a fan and I liked the gray cammo scheme they have (how well I can paint it depending), plus I have managed to get some Ghost bear Decals!
Inner Shere scheme
This was a bit of trial and errror to get it right, , base GW Gray Seer Unercoat. Then and overall covering of thinned down GW contrast Militarum Green . Now the thinning has varied a bit, some of the greenbase differs, plus on some if shading didnt stand out the got washed in GW Agrax Earthshade The varying green is ok, as Knights Mercian units are spread over the Periphery and Inner Sphere, and as the converted to the Star Leagues scheme units would have used local sources for the paint and they would have differed in hue and shading, plus some mechs would have already begun to weather before others were re painted (its my excuse and sticking to it).
As I said earlier this Star League scheme actually matches most of the vehicles I brought over the years . As the following photos show. I brought at various times, many pre Internet, so we’re literally brought as found them. I know I picked up a fair view in the games dept of Virgin Megastore, and completed my collection of Battlechnology, a superb magazine from the early to middle 80’s. Turned out the manager of the dept and most of hiss staff were all members of the long defunct mechwarriors UK.
The last 3 photos are of non Battletech official vehicles, but are models from the Ground Zero Games GZG range.
Having tested the scheme on my repaints from the game of Armoured Combat I actually got round to tackling not only the kickstarter models from the Clans starter box and a couple of boxes of Inner sphere mechs brought at the weekend,
I intially wanted to go my light mechs, as I had few of them for the force , so opened the Inner shered Strike Lanc , has it has the stable Panther, Wolfound and Jenner , plus I opened the support Lance for the Spider, in addition this would give me a medium Blackjack , a heavy Dragon/Grand/Dragon and 2x Assualts in the Thug and The Cyclops, a bons being I had not got either the Dragon or Cyclops in my collection .
Having got the scheme I wanted with the re-paints, the whole 8 mechs took less than a day to complete
