Warhammer 40,000 Aledari Codex Preview Talks BIG Book
February 1, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has been talking more about the reemergence of the Aeldari in the grimdark of Warhammer 40,000. This week, we got a peek at the new cover for Codex Aeldari and learned a little more about what we'll find inside.

One of the literally big things about this Codex is that it is going to be huge. It is going to be 200 pages in length and contain rules for not only the Asuryani Aeldari (normal Eldar) but also Harlequins, the Corsairs and finally the Ynnari too. They are covering pretty much all the bases when it comes to updating the Aeldari games of Warhammer 40,000.

In addition to the rules, there are also going to be updated stratagems, warlord traits and more. One of the neat things is that we're seeing things expanded on the Crusade front. You'll be able to delve into a narrative campaign with your friends along the Path of the Warrior, the Path of the Seer, or the Path of the Outcast.
I am very interested to see just what Games Workshop do to make each of the core Craftworlds pop. I would love to see them commit to the restructuring of Force Organisation for the different Craftworlds as we did back in the old supplement. This has mostly been helped and changed by the advent of Detachment types but it would be nice to see Iyaden fully committed to the "wraith" theme.
As well as the information on the Aeldari and their new Codex, we also got teased that the next of the Codexes is going to be for a foe of Iyanden in particular. The Tyranids are going to be seething forward and threatening to devour the galaxy.
Are you going to be picking up Codex Aeldari?

New figures new codex simples ?
This Is The Way…
Yup.
the new codex includes Harlequins (which had their own codex) and even the Eldar Corsairs (which GW forgot existed … ).
It would be cool if it really was a proper big book (realm of chaos style), but I suspect it’s 2 pages of fluff and 80 pages of stat cards and pictures of minis.
(Realm of Chaos and the Ork Waagh! book that GW did ages ago were the best things ever)
Great stuff for all Eldar players then.?
In theory : yes
In reality : probably not so …
The codexes have been kind of dissapointing.
Not enough fluff and too many silly rules to make up for the fact that the system was never designed to handle non humans of widely different skill levels.
If this had been the first codex for 9th edition I might have jumped at the chance to see updated Eldar profiles.
Now I suspect that both Harlequins and Corsairs won’t get the treatment they deserve.
I’d also argue that these troop types are more suited to killteam sized games and not made for the open warfare of 40k.
Ooh.
I really do love the artwork on the cover. I also like the fact we have Aledari including Harlequins Corsairs and Ynnari in the same book and not seperate codex or limited to white dwarf. The rules also seem to allow Harlequins to be included in Craftworlds armies without the punishments we have seen before.
I am quite excited to be able to look at fielding actual Eldar troops on the battlefield rather than tank spam.
