Paizo & GF9 Join Forces For New Board & Card Game Projects!

News today that Paizo and Gale Force Nine have joined forces to create new board and card games for the Fantasy world of Pathfinder and the Sci-Fi world of Starfinder!
Both the realms of Golarion and the Pact Worlds are going to be brought to the tabletop allowing the famous heroes, villains, locations and monsters from those roleplaying games to be explored in entirely new ways.
New Game Projects & Pathfinder: Level 20
Throughout 2022, two new board games and one card game are lined up to be released through this partnership. Things start with Pathfinder: Level 20 which is slated for Q2 2022 whilst beyond that you have Starfinder: Pirates Of Skydock for Q3 and finally Pathfinder: Tall Tales in Q4.

The first of these games, Pathfinder: Level 20, is a two-to-six player game that will have you playing as Kobolds in their warrens trying to escape from a nineteenth Level Adventurer who only needs five experience to hit level twenty.

If you're able to chase the hero away or just outlast your "friends" then you'll be crowned the new Kobold champion! But, before that can happen you'll need to push your friends under the iron boots of your pursing adventurer to ensure your own victory.

It seems like it could be some neat fun that turns the adventuring of Pathfinder on its head. Through some cunning card play and just the right amount of backstabbing, you should be able to scrape your way to victory.

I hope Paizo is OK as a company. They torched the second edition of their Pathfinder Adventure Card Game shortly after the first expansion was released, halting production in its tracks and leaving the player-base bewildered. Pathfinder as a RPG rose to prominence due to D&D’s 4E debacle, but has fallen just as fast with the resurgence of D&D 5E. I don’t see a lot of traction around Starfinder. And corporate team-ups like this can indicate a desperation to explore spaces that the company doesn’t think it can reach on its own. I hope it all works out.
Pathfinder and Starfinder seem to have steady releases, so assume they are both healthy. I suspect 5E sales are starting to stagnate, and will probably carry on downwards as the number of releases increases and quality decreases (I like 5E but am done with the official books now).
GF9 was tied in with WoTC to produce accessories but WoTC pulled out of the deal and moved to WizKids. GF9 and Paizo seem like a good fit as this is very similar stuff to what GF9 were already making for 5E.
