White Dwarf Sneak Peek! Blood Angels Tackle Tyranids
November 25, 2014 by brennon
Much like with Stormclaw Games Workshop have both a new campaign book called Shield of Baal: Deathstorm on the way alongside a new boxed set with both Blood Angels and Tyranids inside. Another new injection of fun for Warhammer 40,000?
The first few leaks came through showing off the new Blood Angel Captain who has himself a name much like Krom Dragongaze did in the Stormclaw box and it comes with a few other additions too...
- Karlaen: Captain of the Blood Angels
- "Spawn of Cryptus": Lord of the Tyranid Swarm
- 5x Blood Angel Death Company
- 1x Death Company Dreadnought
- 5x Blood Angel Terminators
- 3x Tyranid Warriors
- 8x Genestealers
- 1x Carnifex
- 1x Rulebook and Campaign Book
It sounds like a neat looking set which you can see in the image above. Not exactly the best way to start off an army for Warhammer 40,000 in my opinion since it doesn't come with what you'd assume would be the standard troop choices like Tactical Marines and 'Gants of some description. However, since this is a fluff based set built for a campaign it's understandable. I guess it would have been rather boring to just include what you see in every other faction.
Once again this WILL be limited edition so once it's gone it's gone.
Will you be keeping an eye on the webstore come Friday?

I really like the look of the new Captain. The TH makes sense as the termies in the squad have AP2 powerfists as well as guns. He’s got a 4+ inv save from his Iron Halo so doesn’t need the SS so much. Just a shame it is limited edition… 🙁
I’d been looking forward to this, but after picking up Space Hulk the last thing I needed was more terminators! Assault terminators perhaps, but not power fist and stormbolter ones. Still, the Captain looks nice and death company parts can always spice up any Blood Angel infantry units.
That captain doesn’t really do it for me, I’m lucky enough to have the space hulk termies for my BA, so I’ll be passing on this box. But I am looking forward to the BA codex and whatever models they throw at us after this.
Haven’t been excited for a GW release for years, but unless they completely lose the plot they will get some of my money. I’m hoping for a new Mephiston and sanguinor, who is the most ridiculously posed space marine in history.
That Broodlord model certainly looks epic (‘if you are going to have claws, have properly huge claws’ seems to be its mantra). I wonder if the Spawn if Cryptus model will be some kind of unique creature specific to a certain scenario or campaign in the forthcoming Shield of Baal; Exterminatus book, or if GW is planning to revisit the Broodlord more generally. Certainly, the artwork and description of the critters in the Tyranid Painting Guide makes them sound rather nastier (not to mention more capable of leading entire Tyranid invasions) then their unit entry currently allows for.
So there is some DC with new Captain and termies. That new Captain is not particulary impressive.
As my first 40k army was dreading blood angels getting a limited edition release on run to xmas, but we are all good. Really not doing it for me – looks like a cross between the 2 space hulk sergeants but not as cool as either in my mind.
Nid beastie is pretty nice but I really don’t need more un-made nids.
