Games Workshop Showcase New 40K Aeldari Dark Reapers
January 18, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has dropped another new preview for what's awaiting those Aeldari/Asuryani wargamers in Warhammer 40,000. The Dark Reapers showed their grim faces this week with some miniatures that borrow from older and new designs.

The new Dark Reapers feature the familiar "Oldhammer" style look to their helmets and rock a little more of a lithe form. Their armour seems more form-fitting here compared to previous releases but you still get a sense of bulk from their weapons and stances.

It seems like they have struck a good balance between the old school look of the Dark Reapers, especially with those targeting fins on their helmets, and the more modern style of the Aeldari. You also get the option to have Dark Reapers without their iconic skull-faced helmets...if you're weird and like that kind of thing.
The Exarch, as per normal, comes with four weapon options. They can rock a Reaper Launcher, Aeldari Missile Launcher, Shuriken Cannon and more. You also get that rather awesome hooded helmet option which looks absolutely amazing. I want an entire unit of those.

This is going to be another of their new plastic kits to help remedy the lacklustre set of Finecast releases that Aeldari fans have had to contend with over the past few years. I do need to bulk out my Dark Reapers unit for my own Aeldari army so I will probably end up picking this new pack!
I am prepared for all bitz sellers to end up running out of hooded exarch heads in short order.

I also like that we're getting those neat shrine markers for the various units that Games Workshop has been previewing. The Rangers we saw not long ago are getting one for example. I think those are going to have some kind of in-game effect but could also be good objective markers too.
Are you liking the new look of the Dark Reapers?

Haha plastic aspect warriors at last. I wonder if they will do all of the others
Seems like they will be. Howling Banshees and Dark Reapers have now been “done” (and Dire Avengers of course) – I would imagine this year is going to see more and more of the sets translate over.
Would love to see Warp Spiders get an update to their ancient models (pretty sure these are now the oldest models for which there are no other “official” alternatives, maybe just beaten out by the Avatar of Khaine)
The Daughthers of Khaine have an avatar that could probably be used as the Avatar in 40k.
Not sure if they’re the same size though
I think I’ve seen folk mention it and it’s supposedly a little smaller than the 40k one…
It is smaller, and also very ‘statuesque’ in it’s pose. It works nicely for the Cauldron of Blood, but I think it might seem a bit underwhelming if you used it as an Avatar of Khaine for 40k…plus you would need to get a Cauldron of Blood for one very small bit of the kit. This looks like they are going to do a big push to get the army into plastic, so I’d expect a new Avatar to be coming…maybe with some weapon options? They seem to like doing that at the moment.
It’s nice to see GW keeping the past design elements of the different aspects in these new models so it will be possible to run old and new alongside each other without much of an issue. I like the heavier armour here. The helmets just don’t do it though for me even they are true to the original. I will certainly be looking at swapping them out.
My thoughts exactly. Really like these but the helmets don’t seem to have benefited from the updated sculpt. Possibly too similar to the originals, which suited the old design much better.
Anyone remember a children’s book called Funnybones? In a dark dark house, in a dark dark cellar, some Dark Reapers lived.
I’m fond of bashing GW but these are an excellent update.
Fab looking new figures to game with.
Bunny ears ?
Those are both really nice and much needed. Bravo.
They look nice.
I don’t see myself ever buying a GW model anytime soon, but I suddenly feel like picking up on my old plans of re-doing my first ever army.
So they must be doing something right.
Gotta admit that these last few eldar models make me remember why I used to love 40k so much.
These along with the recent Guardian release have retained the aesthetic of previous models. Despite not playing 40K anymore I’m happy to see my beloved Eldar are still Eldar (they can call them what they like). I’ll be following with interest to see what they do with the Scorpions. I think part of me will die if they ruin them.
Good to see the Eldar finally getting some new sculpts. However, as the owner of an Alaitoc force from the last, true Craftworld, these new fangled sculpts lead ever further from the true path of the Eldar. The only true aspect warrior is one of metal. Perhaps I need to return to the path of the Autarch and show the errant Craftworlds that damnation lies in plastic sculpts!
Wraithbone is surely superior to metal.
How many have you brought or planning to buy Ben?
Is it me or do those skull masks look like Lego skeleton heads?
