About the Project
A collection of painted miniatures, ideas and conversions for delving into Warhammer 40,000 and Inq28. I have really been enjoying the idea of a more grimdark army as a different project from my Aeldari so hopefully, this will be it!

Death Cult Assassins
I was painting some more of my Inquisitorial Scions but I got distracted and instead updated some older models from my collection. Perfect for a bit of Inq28…
Again trying to make them look quite striking with all of the red, but also grim and horrible at the same time.
It’s wild how often I look at a miniature and think “that looks great”. Then I take a picture haha. But, never mind – I think they look pretty cool.
Test Scheme
So I had a punt at a scheme. I like how dark and moody it is. I also need to do a little more work on it though. Everything is as it will be bar the addition of some lighter green for the grenades and backpack…
Inquisitorial Scions Squad
So I spent a good few hours over the last few days mixing together the Tempestus Scions with the Palanites to create my own kit-bashed set of Inquisitorial Scions for this growing Inq28/40k/Planet 28 collection…
I cut myself a few times. I glued bits together and held them together with sheer will. But, I think the miniatures turned out looking pretty good. I have cleaned them up a bit more since these photos but they work well I reckon!
The Medic was really fun to do. I hotshot lasgun is there so it’s represented on the model but I like the idea that he is rushing forward to one of his fallen commander. The Servo Skull is there as his medicae assistant that steps in when the fighting is fierce.
I also had a rough time with the flamer but I now think it looks like he is firing at something that has jumped out of a high vent. The grenade launcher was also a struggle but he has that wire latched onto him as a stabiliser to fire it?
My favourite regular trooper now here with his stunstick at the ready to subdue a mutant/heretic/xenos creature for the Inquisitor.
…and the rest of the squad now.
This was a lot of fun and has really scratched my kitbashing itch. I am very up for doing this again with more of the Scions and Palanites as I’ve shown earlier in this project.
Here is the squad all lined up. The comms guy is hiding in the back rank unfortunately!
The next thing I need to do is work out how the various elite elements of the army are going to work. So, the Scion Command + the Palanite Subjugators etc.
I also want to pick up the Ven Denst miniatures from Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and turn them into another Inquisitor and Acolyte pairing for this army. I also might do some rebasing on the existing miniatures onto those lovely sculpted Necromunda ones (see above) – I think it will bring everything up to the right height.
Future Ideas
So – I thought I’d collate some of my future ideas for using different miniatures to build up this Inquisitorial army and its various bits and bobs.
The first thing is another bit of kitbash planning. To make the actual Scion Command option I’m going to mix the Subjugators with the original Astra Militarum kit.
This unit comes with more special weapons so I thought it would work nicely. I think it also makes the “bodyguard” feel of the Scion Command a little better since they are armed with those massive shields.
The next thing is doing something similar with the Bullgryns and the Servitors that you can get from the Necromunda range (so much fun to be had with those plastics).
This should make things feel a little more “jury-rigged”. I want the Inquisitors warband and army to feel like he has dragged it from all sorts of different corners of the city infrastructure so he can hunt down his foes.
I also really like the Jotunn suit design for the Ogryn Servitors. I think that should work nicely to get that “grim” feel across again.
The other thing I’ve talked about is adding the Taurox into the mix. These are going to get conversion kits to replace the tracks with wheels.
The wheels are going to come from Etsy. I looked others out there but they are pretty expensive. So, an Etsy buy of £8 seems legit AND should be simple to assemble – they don’t look as polished as some kits BUT they get the job done.
Last but not least, another character to help my Inquisitor. I’m going to use this lady as part of his warband then playing Planet 28 and Inq28.
Again, I think Servalen looks great and I would have her without her visor and mask on. I would go with a similar pale skin paint job for her and use that awesome black and red design on her armour. I might change out the weapon in her right hand to be something a bit more brutal though.
Inquisitorial Psyker
I view this chap as a member of the Astra Militarum who had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting my Inquisitor when he was on the battlefield.
Only the two of them made it out and the Inquisitor decided that he would be handy to have around so he was given a new coat and now has to follow him into all sorts of hives of scum and villainy.
I like to think that he is utterly pathetic but holds legitimate grievances with the Inquisitor as he throws him into terrible, terrible situations.
I enjoyed doing the pale skin on this chap to match the look of the Daemonhost. This was also a good testbed for that black and red scheme I want to do across the entire warband/army.
Whilst this fellow is going to be on a normal base, I am interested in switching them all over to the matching Necromunda bases that I’ll be using once the Palanite Enforcers appear.
Plan For The Inquisitorial Army
My plan is to buy the Tempestus Scions alongside the Palanite Enforcers from Necromunda to make an army of “Stormtroopers” to match the old army from a couple of editions ago.
The model kits should work nicely together and I’ll use the Palanites as the basis of the squads. The weapons and such can then be bolted onto them, as well as potentially the helmets.
Also – most certainly going to replace the Taurox treads with the wheel kits you can get on etsy etc.
