Games Workshop has been showing off some of the brand new Combat Patrol sets that are coming to Warhammer 40,000 in the near future. There are options for all of the factions that have (or will be getting) a new Codex soon.

The first of these we're going to be looking at is for the Adeptus Custodes. This actually seems pretty good, especially considering the high points cost of running a Custodes force. You've got the Shield-Captain option here, Vertus Praetors, Sisters Of Silence and more in this pack. There are some solid options in there for making a good strike force, especially if you recently picked up Shadow Throne.

The next of the releases is for the Genestealer Cults. This, again, comes packed with all manner of units and options for running these heralds of the Tyranids.

You've got a Magus leading the way, a selection of different generations of Cultists and a Goliath Rockgrinder for good measure. This, again, seems like a pretty good basis for a new force on the tabletop.

Last year, we also saw the release of the new Codexes for the Grey Knights and the Thousand Sons. The Grey Knights, much like the Adeptus Custodes, get a rather elite force with plenty of Terminator goodness in the mix.

All of these, as the name would suggest, has been designed to give you a Combat Patrol ready force. It has the one HQ and one Troop choice that you need followed by enough to bump up the power/points a little. Are they all going to be balanced? Probably not. Does it matter? Not really. If you're new to the hobby then having some fun and messing around with a boxed set like this seems like a good way to go.

Here is the other half of that grimdark clash. A mass of daemons alongside equally angry (and dust-filled) Terminators. You've even got a cunning Sorcerer leading the way.

The final Combat Patrol that was previewed was for one of the factions yet to get their Codex. The T'au Empire are going to be able to bring some serious firepower to the tabletop.

Combat Patrol Tau Empire - Warhammer 40000

An interesting mix of options with the regular Fire Warriors, Stealth Suits, an Ethereal and a towering XV95 Ghostkeel Battlesuit. That should be an interesting painting test for someone getting started with T'au!

These mark some good starting points for diving into Warhammer 40,000. Additionally, they usually are fairly good value for money. Things get more expensive from there, of course, but they are usually a good building block.

New Aeldari Preview

Next up, we also have a preview of more of the new Autarch kit that is coming to the Aeldari when they get their new Codex release.

As we talked about when this first got announced, this new plastic Autarch is going to be very modular. There are a number of different heads, male and female torsos, plus a mix of different melee and ranged weapons that you can tailor to your faction and way of playing.

You can even give this Autarch a Warp Spider Generator on their back so they can zip around the battlefield trying to find the heart of the action. This miniature can also be mixed in alongside the existing Autarch plastic kit offering up a way to introduce Swooping Hawk wings and more too.

Are you tempted by one of the new Combat Patrol sets or the new Aeldari?
