Modern City TerrainCrate Sets Arriving February From Mantic
January 7, 2022 by brennon
Mantic Games offered up a new preview of what's on the cards for their expanding TerrainCrate collection. They have done plenty for Fantasy and Sci-Fi but their newest sets would be good for Modern settings including some superhero-based encounters.
City Battle TerrainCrate // Mantic Games
This means sets like this for a City Battle. Like this, it will feature lots of blasted and broken red brick buildings that have no doubt seen some warfare in their time. These would be great for those battling during the modern-day, in post-apocalyptic futures and more. It would be a great fit for something like a zombie apocalypse.

Much like their other sets, this is filled with smaller scatter pieces alongside some of the big, modular pieces. You could also easily slot these in alongside some of the Sci-Fi options from Mantic to make a larger tabletop for Deadzone.
It will be fun to see exactly what Mantic have up their sleeve. I am considering snapping up a few of their Sci-Fi kits to use on a Warhammer 40,000 table or two.
Are you going to be picking some new sets up?

I like the look of this. The city box set seems generic enough to suit a number of post industrial time periods and can be adapted quite easily for fantasy of grim dark with a bit of imagination. Top work.
These are the same square brick plates that Mantic has kept in print for years since their licensed Mars Attacks Kickstarter back in 2014. They are now marketing them for use in Marvel Crisis Protocol. They aren’t great, but they aren’t terrible. They do have those weird long connector plates between height levels to obscure the seams, as well as the same annoying little spot connectors to link plates that you see in their sci-fi terrain.
Looks perfect for Walking Dead…. oh….
They used to push these for their Walking Dead game. Typically Black Fridays would have some mega-deal where you could get a fair amount of ’em for cheap as part of a bundle (and a way for Mantic to clear old inventory.) Now suddenly Mantic want full price again.
well it’s not black friday
When this terrain came out, it was really good stuff.
It is pretty dated now. When compared to the terrain like Archon’s Rampart line it just doesn’t hold up as well. With the price points that Mantic have been putting on their terrain boxes, I just dont see the point of buying this.
I picked up mars attacks at the expo when they were selling it cheap. terrain ok. bigger building would be better, buit I’d really like some star wars cheap terrain.
I love building the terrain crate buildings, both the modern and sci-fi themes. And the industrial could go with either. So much flexibility of mixing panels and scatter together. And in very robust hard plastic. I always want more.
The modern panels have brickwork molded on one side and concrete/render texture on the otherside for further variation.
It does feel more US setting than UK setting. But mixed in with some WW2 mdf buildings, that could represent the patchwork UK-style townscape.
looks a good terrain box.
