Flash Gordon Rocketing His Way To Kickstarter For Nostalgic Fun
December 22, 2021 by fcostin
Don’t you just miss the look of retro-style board games? The faded front cover even though newly purchased, the clashing of colours and big names from our big screens heading onto the tabletop for some good, clean family fun. The shape of an old Heroquest box, and chock-a-block of high-quality wooden or chunky components.
Flash Gordon will be heading over to Kickstarter for a new retro board game outfit, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the nostalgic 1980's motion picture and taken straight from the pages of the Alex Raymond 1930’s comic strip. Flash Gordon The Board Game will be headed to Kickstarter in January 2021.
Flash Gordon: The Board Game // Plastic Meatball
Plastic Meatball will be bringing the Flash Gordon title to the tabletop, and although there is not much released regarding the game mechanic, they have released some narrative in where we can find our nostalgic players:
“As Flash, players travel to the various moons of Mongo, facing challenges, building strength and gathering allies for the ultimate showdown against Ming the Merciless. But time is running out, as the Moon is on a collision course with Earth. Can you tame the Wood Beast, survive a Disc Duel, commandeer the War Rocket Ajax and defeat Ming before it's too late?”
By my guesses, I couldn’t tell you what mechanic is being used, or how many players would be taking the form of Flash, but there is certainly is a lot to do! Commandeering a rocket, conquering the Woodbeast and taking down Ming the Merciless, all before dinner time. It seems that players will be levelling up, and looting to eventually take down Ming and complete the game.
The nostalgic title will be headed to Kickstarter within the first month of 2022 to celebrate the anniversary of the mighty Flash Gordon himself.
What would you like to see from Flash Gordon The Board Game?

Covid its like the Cardigans song Erase an rewind? @sundancer
I knew that time travel was a thing as the US is supposed to live in the past of Europe but this is definitely off somehow
Flash! Ahaaa! Defender of the universe!
I believe that @avernos and @sundancer have the Clash of Spears angle covered for that
CLASH! AHAaaaaaa!
Should be based on the original serials.
GORDON’S ALIVE.
I loved the movie as a child – even had Flash Gordon underpants – which were weird as Flash’s face was right over my junk.
With all the crazy weather we have been getting around the world..it does feel like “Ming” is behind it all….!
Buster Crabbe still the best Flash, forget your Woodbeast he faced down the Orangopoid, Fire Dragon with big nippy claws and the Octosak.
Hope they get the right balance between nostalgia and playability.
Brian Blessed doing the voice over for the audio rulebook. imagine the voice….
