North Star Preview Prussians & Austrians For The Silver Bayonet
December 22, 2021 by brennon
North Star Military Figures has been previewing more of their releases for Osprey Games' The Silver Bayonet popping up in the new year. The Prussians and the Austrians are heading to the battlefields of Europe soon.
The Prussians // The Silver Bayonet
Much like with the other releases, these miniature packs feature a set of soldiers-turned-hunters as well as experts in the craft and civilians who have been dragged into this supernatural conflict. There are loads of interesting characters in the mix with some seriously awesome facial hair on display!
There is a good mix of miniatures here for both sides. I particularly like the Occultists and such who have been drafted in to help each of the factions battling against the forces of darkness.
The Austrians // The Silver Bayonet
It helps to build a nice narrative and means that your hunters aren't just about shooting and stabbing their way through situations. You occasionally need a good, calm, thinker who is going to be able to work out the best way to ease their way through a problem.
The Russians, Prussians and Austrians are all coming to North Star's webstore in the new year!

I hadn’t seen these yet; I think the Russians are probably my favourite of the wave 2 releases, but there’s a couple that look very nice in the Austrian set.
Splendidly Teutonic
The top row on The Prussians look like 40k Imperial commissars and the left one on the lower row of the Austrians looks like Lemmy with a sword XD
That settles it Prussians it is for me.
There’s a couple of splendid hats in the Austrians though. I wouldn’t want to face some ghouls not sporting some form of impressive headwear.
I like the Austrians. I am guessing that the Dhampir is the guy on the bottom left with the long ears? My favourite is the Guard model. To be honest I would have preferred to see one or two of the models with the Fusilier helmet (can’t remember the name at the moment); it just means I will have the opportunity to convert a few. Good times.
Some splendid facial hair on show from both nations. This could be my favourite miniature range in a very long time.
I’m all for splendid moustaches, but we desperately need some more pelisses!
Oh heck yes! I think Hussars are a thing in the game. I guess the traddie Napoleonic mini companies night oblige.
not on foot they don’t
Gah that’s true.
I don’t know about all the companies but was a severe lack on Front Rank as I was looking for a dismounted Hussar to do a Deaths Head Leib Hussar.
Nightrunner was after one so I spent a fruitless 3 hours searching last week. Even when you find nicely posed and sculpted ones like Brigade’s they aren’t wearing tunics or hats so there is no way to even spot that they are hussars.
We ended up suggesting using some SYW figures instead
One option might be to look at horse artillery crew as a basis for some conversion work, as some crews had hussar uniforms, albeit lacking the pelisse.
Alternatively, the Perry’s do plastic dismounted French dragoons (two on a frame). That might give you the legs to match with a top half from a mounted model.
Or as Gerry suggests, grab something from the Seven Years War and arm wave the older uniforms.
do like the Prussians, pompous gurmans for me
I can imagine great basing for the Prussians and Austrians. An urban rubble for the former while the latter gets something more rural. I don’t know what it is but there are particular motifs that come along with different warbands.
Fab looking new figures.
Very cool – with the Prussians you can draw on elements of slavic folklore and the Austrian empire included Transylvania so plenty of opportunities for cool encounters…
@avernos is there a difference in game terms between factions?
I really do like that Prussian officer. Might be the basis for some conversions.
the only difference is what soldiers are available for your unit.
I want to buy every single faction. I like the rather old school charme of the minis and they are priced reasonably.
And its either this or painting 700 28mm Minis to get into Napoleonic wargames.
These are full of character, as are many of the figures in the range.
Oops, the Austrians have fallen into my shopping cart.
Best get them now before I break any New Year resolutions about painting stuff before buying more.
Prussians look like they may overtake as my favourite now. Very nicely detailed models.
Oh, I spot several monocles. Clearly the Prussians and Austrians are men of distinction!
