Middle-earth Diorama by henrileite

A fancy Christmas project to begin with thanks to henrileite firstly. This is a wonderful diorama that shows off some Hobbits going off on their adventures and encountering all manner of quirky friends and foes.

The miniatures come from Copplestone Castings and have been built into a fun diorama/terrain piece which shows them wandering around The Shire (or perhaps beyond?). The project is very self-contained and I think the finished project works exceptionally well - especially as you see it descending down through the layers.

Each section of the diorama tells a different story. Sometimes the Hobbits find themselves dealing with Spiders and at other times a flock of birds! There is, of course, a nice way to stage the Hobbits wandering across the wonderful rolling fields too.

I really like the idea of a diorama that tells lots of very different stories. Most of the time, a diorama focuses specifically on one moment in time, a vignette almost. This time around though, we're getting a neat look at lots of different stories which have fun with the concept. It is well worth heading over to the project to see the finished product set up inside its nice glass case.

Necromunda Sump City by markomadman

Next up, we're taking a look at a set of Necromunda terrain from markomadman. This has been designed to create the close-knit and claustrophobic feel of the Underhive where buildings are closing in around you and almost hanging over head.

The terrain is designed on tiles that then slot together. The closeness of these pieces then gives the claustrophobic look that we mentioned above. A fair amount of this, if not all of this, has been designed from scratch making it a really fun project to dive into.

I really like the rough and ready look of the terrain. It all looks like it would fit nicely into the Underhive, a world where colour makes an appearance but it is splashed across buildings in a very haphazard fashion.

What's nice with the terrain is that it really does look like it would be fun to play across. You always want to try and make it so that terrain works nicely in the midst of a game.

It is a neat set of terrain that would be great for Necromunda but all manner of other Sci-Fi skirmish games too. You can head on over to the project on the link above to see a video of some of the terrain coming together as well.

Angels Of Stealth by flatbattery

Lastly, we're finishing things off with flatbattery and their return to painting some Warhammer 40,000. We had seen some of this coming to life earlier in the year but now, we've got a few more characters finished off and some troops for this growing Space Marine army.

The "Angels Of Stealth" look fantastic and I really like how the metallics have been done here. The armour could, normally, look very odd and out of place but I think that flatbattery has done a good job here. It matches well with the other more detailed elements of the miniature too. I really like all of the scrollwork and the added detail on the purity seals.

I really like this particular Primaris character which manages to channel all of the grimdark of the Space Marines into one place it seems! You also have these older Space Marines who are still as cool looking as ever despite being a fair few years old.

I think I still actually have these miniatures sitting in my collection somewhere. The work on the facial details for the Veteran Sergeant is amazing and, once again, the look of the metallics here is spot on. It is simple (not detracting from the finished look) but very, very effective.
