The Army Painter’s Speedpaint Range Heads To Pre Order!
December 17, 2021 by fcostin
Sometimes, getting an army tabletop ready can be a bit of a nightmare - especially if you are painting them with acrylics. There are tonnes of different manufacturers of paint out there, and for those who usually like a quick paint job - Contrasts paints tend to do the trick!
Introducing Speedpaint! // The Army Painter
The Army Painter have now placed their Speedpaints range up on pre-order, ready for the release in February 2022.
Whether you are looking to just test out the range or swim in it, there are two products ready for pre-order at your FLGS store and online. The Speedpaint Starter Set and Speedpaint Mega Set will be made available on the 19th of February, pitching to new and veteran painters.
Speedpaint Starter Set // The Army Painter
The Speedpaint Starter Set is perfect for those who are just starting out, or maybe just feel a little sceptical about the new range, and want to try their hand at some basic colour. Such as Orc Skin, Hardened Leather and Pallid Bone. These will include 10 18ml bottles of essential highlights, bases and shadows and a brush.
The Speedpaint Mega Set will contain all of the colours in the range, with 24 brand new Speedpaint 18ml dropper bottles, and a handy Army Painter brush.
The new range from The Army Painter has been formulated to allow painters to get their armies up with ease, as hobbyists will only need to apply one coat to gain their desired effect.
Make way for February, as a game-changer will be heading to the tabletop! There seem to be a lot of pre-order available online for the Starter Set, but from what I can see for the Mega Set, they seem to be sold out! Do let us know in the comments if you find any, I am sure one person in the community will want their hands on a new range!
Will you be giving your Contrast paints a rest to try out the Speedpaints?

**breaks open piggy bank set aside for groceries, foodstuffs and occasional snack to begin making way to his FLGS** I could lose a few pounds between paychecks without issue… no worries. This will come in handy for the army after my Arabian Knights
But where on the Army Painter website
@brennon Do you know if OTT are getting these in?
I know pre-orders are live for them on pretty much any FLGS, even though not available (currently) on their own site. I will ask on Monday if we’re getting any in the store.
Cheers as there are no gaming stores here who stock Army Painter. No gaming stores at all really truth be told
I’m not saying I’ve wishlisted it at my FOGS… but I have.
very tempting paints.
yep .. very tempting.
Even if they don’t work perfectly it’s good to have options like this.
If you have matte medium, acrylic inks, and flow aid around the house (and you should, since you’ve been making your own Les Bursley washes, right? (: then you can make your own contrast. Search on “Goobertown Hobbies contrast paint”. The short answer is 1/2 matte medium, 1/2 ink, and a few drops of flow aid. Add water, and you now have a wash (search on “Les Bursley wash”, especially on Dakka). Since I paint generic fantasy, rarely will I have a large area of one color, unless it’s a “naked monster”, such as an ogre, demon, or blob. Even… Read more »
I’m sure these will make great additions to people’s collections, and be a great first paint set for many. Always good to have some more completion in the market.
I imagine I’ll pick up a few of these eventually but for now, the £36 RRP for 10 is a bit pricey, especially given I’d only be after a few out of that set which works out at £3.60 a paint (before third party discounts) and you can get contrast for around £3.70 in places, yes I know you get the mixing balls but they cost peanuts when bought in bulk.
I was looking forward to these, but they don’t seem much cheaper than Citadel Contrast at the moment. *sad panda*
As contrast generally do the job, and I can get them anywhere, I may have to pass.
I’ll keep my eyes open and look for deals, but right now colour me disappoint.
