Meet Minotaurs & Mandragores From Monkstone Miniatures
December 8, 2021 by brennon
Monkstone Miniatures has released a couple of amazing new miniatures for their strange Fantasy collection. Coming in around the 28mm mark, they have been growing and adding to their The Kingdoms of Dünnmere world. We start with a Minotaur.
Brunor, Minotaur Exile // Monkstone Miniatures
As you can see, their miniatures are pretty darn awesome. Brunor stands at 48mm to the top of his head and is based on some lovely artwork by Jack Good. What is also awesome is that each of the characters has their own backstory...
"Brunor was once a champion of the Blue Peaks. His arm now bears the mark of an exile, marking him out as a failed claimant and challenger to the chieftain. Like so many exiles he wanders Dünnmere, selling his blade to the highest bidder.
The days of the great minotaur herds are long gone, but small tribes still exist around the edges of the Blue Peak mountains and further south across the Emerald Sea."
Each of the miniatures comes in resin and looks like it would be an absolute joy to paint.

I really like the "weight" of Brunor. It might not be literally heavy but you get a sense of his immense bulk and what he could bring to a fight. You could use the swirling scars on his back to try something different when it comes to painting too, filling them with magical light perhaps.
Witch's Thralls
As well as Brunor, we also have some smaller miniatures. These are no less fantastic! See what you make of the Mandragores, the Witch's Thralls.

Of course, this set of three miniatures comes with their own bit of lore for Monkstone's world...
"Mandragores are strange sentient roots that grow in Dünnmere. They tend to grow in soil that has been steeped in blood, although they are not evil by nature.
They are often used by witches as servants, as they are easily bound to their wills, and work tirelessly without sleep. They give off a high pitched and deafening scream, when threatened, making them good sentries too."
Standing around 29mm to the tops of their heads, these little servants of darkness (once again) feel like they would be amazing to paint. I love how off-the-wall and weird these miniatures are, giving us an immediate insight into the creepy world Monkstone have been building with their range.

If you want to get a closer look at the miniatures that Monkstone have worked on in the past, Gerry did an unboxing of the models last year...
Unboxing: Monkstone Miniatures
The first castings of these particular miniatures you see here will come with the art cards mentioned above. So, if you're eager to get these right now then you might be lucky and snag yourself something special from this bespoke range.
A new option for those of you out there wanting to paint something quirky and weird?
