Corvus Belli Add Living Rulebook To Infinity Updates In Q1 2022
December 3, 2021 by fcostin
We have seen a lot happen with Corvus Belli since the release of N4 in Infinity. We have had the Military Orders for Code: One, Tag Raid, and most recently the Frozen Roads Competition Pack ITS Season 13. However, Corvus didn't want their players thinking that they had forgotten about Infinity.
Infinity // Corvus Belli
Now that it has been over a year since N4 was released, Corvus Belli has reached out to their community to tell them about their new changes with a Living Rulebook being produced to ensure the game stands the test of time as it deserves.
According to Corvus Belli, they will be bundling up every errata, every FAQ and every bit of information that they can muster up into a PDF in the first quarter of 2022 as a free upgrade.
Corvus Belli has shared their want to make slight tweaks and changes that they are not happy with then ensure the game stays balanced and remains current during the game's life cycle.
Are you excited about the Living Rule Book concept coming from Corvus Belli and knowing the future for Infinity has not been forgotten!
"They will be bundling up every errata, every FAQ and every bit of information that they can muster up into a PDF throughout the life of N4."
Nice one.
Free rules are always good.
However I dislike the concept of ‘living rulebooks’, because they make updating rules a bit too easy and there’s a chance you’ll get the GW-effect (because why test when you can update whenever players complain?).
Let’s be honest here, wargame rules are almost always faulty because either there wasn’t time for testing (GW situation) or the testing group was the writer and their five buddies, and the second the rules are released in the wild, people will break them in horrible, horrible ways. It’s better to have rules that can be adjusted than stick to a faulty mess for years until new edition comes out (and is inevitably broken in new ways). At least this is free, unlike paying for Bolt Action/Warhammer/Flames of War style supplements every 3 to 5 years when a new edition… Read more »
the flames of war faqs are free
as are the bolt-action faqs
both are ‘living rulebooks’ by another name.
I seriously doubt that the inevitable N5 version of Infinity will be free as well.
It’s a business. They need money somehow.
Besides … the vast majority of these adjustments will be due to tournament players breaking rules by using them in ways they were not meant to be. You can’t design for that, unless you assume the absolute worst in people.
Bolt action and FOW requires (to my knowledge) nation/campaign books to play appropriate lists, which definitely isn’t free and seems to be updated for every new edition (now it’s cards for FoW too I think?). As for N5 not being free, seeing as literally every previous edition was and it seems the model of free rules, premium-priced models works just fine for them? As for designing by assuming the worst, that’s how everything should be designed. If you design assuming everyone will know what you had in mind and no one will do anything stupid with your product, you failed… Read more »
I think it’s a great idea! Now if some other games would consider going that route…
Enough said to be honest. Still the same rubbish that gets pumped out, many of the major wargame companies in the UK still cant get it right. Although Corvus is across the seas they cant even get it right.
As Corvus Belli gives free access to the Infinity ruleset and the army lists, along with one other industry’s most solid army builders I really don’t set what the fuss is about. Keeping that rulebook updated between edition releases is just a good development. Even as the most casual of players it’s clear that Infinity is a pretty solid system.
I agree completely, I have been playing Infinity since 3rd edition and I have developed a love/hate relationship with the game, but a living rulebook is a great idea since the rules changes are few and far between. It is usually adding to the rules with new weapons and new troop types. I prefer to update my rulebook and have all the rules in one set than take two or three books with me to games. Thank God CB is not GW. PS – I want that bear for my Ariadna! (uncontrollable salivating) PS – @fcostin Sorry I can’t help… Read more »
This does seem really good to me.
