Root Board Game On The Nintendo Switch & New Solo Mode!
November 11, 2021 by fcostin
Have you ever played Root? This successful board game has truly swept board gamers off their feet. As players immerse themselves in the midst of an adorable anthropomorphic adventure, that combines war and control over the wild.
This popular Leder Games title has translated over to many a platform in its success, heading over Steam and equivalent app versions. Players can soon take Root on their Nintendo Switch as Dire Wolf are bringing the game to life once more on another platform.

Root: A Game of Woodland Might & Right is normally played out with 2-4 players both competing and collaborating in a conflict of interests in the beautiful forestry that surrounds them. Playing on the Nintendo Switch still enables players to engage in whimsical warfare, by enabling split-screen mode and allowing online play for those more distanced.

Plus, if you are anything like me and enjoy practising and putting in grind in board games with the constraints of other people joining you, there is a solo mode available too! As players can engage with the AI and their devious digital plots against us tabletop gamers in solo adventures across the game.

Along with enjoying the base game with friends digitally, players can also indulge in two expansions also designed for the Nintendo Switch. Bringing The Riverfolk Expansion and The Clockwork Expansion to the screen, with more adorable creatures, and more devious rivalling factions!
I am really looking forward to the release on Switch, Root is one of my favourite board games. It is the solo aspect against the AI that appeals to me on my Switch, where I can chill on my sofa without having to turn on the computer and sit on my desk.
Playing Root on Switch will certainly appreciate my time with Tom Nook over in Animal Crossing!

no switch no game no thanks.
Ok, serious request: as much as I love video games but this is not the place for them. This community is (to me) for physical objects to buy, collect, paint and gift to others. Video games do not belong here. Games based on a video game IP are one thing but video games is a step too far.
It’s a video game based on a board game, that is probably why it is here. After all there are articles about the boardgame on this site.
For example: https://www.beastsofwar.com/board-games/root-clockwork-expansion-rpg/
And we got news about Marvel and Star Wars movie/series trailers here, so I think it’s ok.
agreed on the trailer stuff but still I feel that this article particularly is “too much video game”-y
But that’s just my 2 cents. After all other people decide on what to put on the frontpage 😉
I agree with you @iceeagle85… same topic came up on discord, so I will just copy and paste 😀 Is it not a case of that bit of news is not for “you” and no one is forcing everyone to read every article, I certainly have no interest in it but have no problem it being posted… there are plenty of things on the site not for me looks like it is a digital adaptation of a beloved board game so I can see the connection. and given the rise of digital board games either full adaptions like this or… Read more »
I agree with sundancer. In several ways I seem to see how OTT is moving away from BoW. Almost no videos filmed in studios, no more of Warzans inspirational crazy ideas, no Vlogs about what is going on with hobby projects, no more Warzan meets mat. I miss themed weeks where game creaters participated in lets plays, where hosts and guess had a talk about games around a table, where the production value of a video was more than a flip between screens. Had a look at the videos on Team Yankee due to my new intrest in that. To… Read more »
No Warren suffers from a severe case of “no fucking decent internet at home” and is getting his data out via carrier pigeon and Lloyd has been locked away by the new owners and only does gifs and intros now.
John’s tricked him into the hobby dungeon warzan is working from their now.?
Root is one of my favourite board games! Was so happy to see the crossover and the chance to play solo! 🙂
Gerry says “wind your neck in” – he said he would do it himself, but he could not be bothered to go to the computer 🙂
“but he could not be bothered to go to the computer”
Then I haven’t poked him enough… not that that would be my intention.
Anyhow, I’m not saying it can’t be enjoyed but I stand by my opinion: it’s a step too far into video games. Then again, I’m only one grumpy old grognard so what do I know? 😉
Always interesting to see board games become video games and vice versa if it puts them in the hands and more people and potentially grabs their interest. I can’t say I have heard of the board game before so it worked because I will now look it up.
