Ok… soooo…. I’m going to be “that guy” (again) but can someone explain to me why they need to do a KS for this? Monsterpocalypse is an existing product with established fan base and all… why crowdfund? This is just a “we want at least 800 pre-orders and we want them now”. It’s CMON all over. But judging by the current numbers they’ll meet their goal and then some. Which shows again they could have just make and release it.
*sigh* I’m just to grognardy I think…
I think it might me to put it on the map a bit more?
I’m not sure how big it always was, but the game always felled like it was in the background a bit.
I think kickstarter has huge marketing benefits for products like this.
They probably could produce it as is, but it just wouldn’t reach so many people.
You can have a discussion about wether or not that’s what kickstarter is for, but in the end it does seem to be what a lot of people want.
“You can have a discussion about wether or not that’s what kickstarter is for, but in the end it does seem to be what a lot of people want.”
I guess that’s my main gripe with KS these days… it’s just “another add platform”
it was always going to be ‘just another platform’
and now companies are creating their own versions of kickstarter and using that to essentially sell stuff to consumer-fans of theirs.
The #1 problem is that there simply are too many companies producing too many products.
In the end you end up with someone curating that output for you, which is basically what investors were doing before this crowdfunding stuff started.
It’s available… In metal. This version is plastic, so is much less exp per mini for customers, but costs for the molds are much higher for the company than metal.
It’s exactly what ks was made for. The high costs of steel molds for plastic means you need an upfront payment that retail doesn’t provide. Same idea as Reaper Miniatures and Bones.
Boardgamers will not pay $25+ for a single metal model. But they will shell out $150+ or $300 for a boardgame and expansions.
1) Because that is Mythic Games business model.
2) Because on KS it is easy to get the hype train and FOMO (with an artificial closing date) to get people to spend hundreds of pounds on a box of plastic models and some cardboard.
3) Much like GW it is no longer even bothering to talk about KS. Just ignore it and get on with life.
an interesting looking new additions to game with.
The minis look nice, that’s about it.
Shame this is Mythic, which means a giant oversized box, a million stretch goals that should have just been included anyway and expensive shipping with a wait of a few years.
Shame this is a Kickstarter too.
Ignore for me.
I can see why both parties would take this to Kickstarter. Will make it more accessible, the scale of economies allow for more plastic, which in turn helps price and ability to play out of the box. What was telling though from the OTT interview was the continuous emphasis on how much the box would contain – and that is pretty much the only metric these major KS players are working towards. Was the same with 6 Siege. For someone who is really into this and couldn’t have it before, this is going to be a really good deal. But… Read more »
