Leviathan Book Spews More 40k Tyranids! [Updated!]
November 11, 2014 by brennon
It looks like the Tyranid swarm hasn't finished it's attack yet from Games Workshop. More leaks have popped up showing off a campaign supplement for Shield of Baal called Leviathan...
This means you're getting some rules and some background in this slipcase set for both Tyranids and Blood Angels (hence the Baal bit). I imagine we're going to see this follow the same line of thought they had with Sanctus Reach and that means we're going to get a lot of Warhammer 40,000 over the next few weeks and probably the whole of November.
According to the background in the leaked White Dwarf images you'll be taking on a series of scenarios for the Cryptus System involving Astra Militarum and Militarum Tempestus forces alongside the Adeptus Sororitas but there's little mention of the Blood Angels themselves.
There will also be rules for Cities of Death, Fighter Aces in the skies and a supplement following the Hive Fleet Leviathan giving you new rules for using them.
As well as the book there will be a new painting guide for dealing with your Tyranid swarm and some of the miniatures we've seen in leaks from last week including Venomthropes and Neurothropes.
So could this essentially mean we're getting a focus towards the Tyranids, Imperial Guard and Sisters of Battle but no such luck for Blood Angels? Maybe they're actually going to appear in whatever campaign boxed set comes out following this book release?
Are you looking forward to more Blood Angels?

I haven’t bought anything from GW for a while, but Blood Angels were my first every wargame army, I’ve had them for over 20 years, so if they release something nice, I’ll be buying it.
A new sculpt for Mephiston would be top of my list, and for them to do something, anything, with the sanguinor.
This also brings back the memory of my favorite ever BoW video, during 7 days of sanguinious, with Warren and Darrell dying in fits of giggles over the blessing of the sergeant.
I like the artwork on that slipcase. Those bugs are definitely about to ruin someone’s day…
I like ‘nids but they seem to be turning into squids…
That brood lord is a lazy re-do of the (twice now) special edition release brood lord from space hulk. Remove the termie bits, replace with mini tyranid spire and release. I’d much rather see new poses from each new release, yet GW seem to be re-using the basis from other models a fair amount lately.
It looks to be a much more 3D type sculpt though, not so many concessions made to 2 half, single piece casting
No, I’m pretty sure its exactly the same pose, less the skull in his hand.
Splen is right, the pose is different- ish. The core body piece looks exactly the same to me (sure, they aren’t the best pictures ever) but the arms look completely different. If I saw this somewhere else, I’d probably assume that it was converted from the Space Hulk Brood Lord with the arms replace by some generic ones from some other Brood Lord kit. Wouldn’t be a tough conversion. GW does seem to be re-using a lot of their sculpting work with the advent of digital sculpting (almost half of the Space Hulk genestealers are mirror images of the other… Read more »
Just googled him as my copy of SH is back home; looks like his left arm is new, but his right arm looks the same.
So that’s what is going to be released next before new BA codex. I am still hoping for BA vs nids box.
The Sanctus Reach campaign books were accompanied by the Stormclaw (?) ork and spacewolf box, so they could be doing the same with BA and ‘nids this time around.
The spacewolves were brought in as reinforcements in the second book of the campaign too, so it’s not necessarily a surprise if the Blood Angels arrive late in this one.
Yes, the Hive fleet is hitting the outer worlds of the Baal region so first line of defence would be the guard armies on those worlds. The Blood Angels would only get involved much later if the guard cannot contain them and they get closer to Baal itself. I predict that Blood Angels will appear in the second part of that campaign, like the Wolves did with Sanctus Reach. I’m very much looking forward to seeing some new Blood Angel stuff, they are in desperate need of a new codex to help counter all the shooty armies such as Eldar… Read more »
