New Hobby Tools Coming To Games Workshop’s Citadel Range

Games Workshop isn't just focused on miniatures this weekend. Saturday also sees pre-orders go live for a bunch of new Hobby Tools from the Citadel Colour range. Prepare all your clampy bits and elastic bands.

There are some fascinating creations as part of this upcoming release. The first of these is the Citadel Colour Assembly Stand which has been designed to allow you to keep bits and bobs in place as you're building miniatures. Found a joint that just won't stick so you need to hold it still? This is where the stand comes in. It looks like something that the Space Marines stand on to get their power armour bolted onto their bodies.
I'm not overly sure how much use this would be but I will admit that I have spent a lot of time propping miniatures against bottles and paint pots so an army or a head would eventually stick properly. I'm sure this will be of use to some folks. Well, until you glue your models to the articulated arms.
New Painting Handle
The next bit of kit that you can pick up is the Citadel Painting Handle XL.

So, if you're working on something massive you've now got a handle that clamps everything in place. Painting Handles are pretty darn handy and having one specifically designed for a human hand is better than a paint pot or cork. Again, not going to be for everyone but for those who like what Games Workshop have done in the past, this might be a good new addition to the hobby arsenal.
Sub-assembly Holder
We also have this fascinating torture device. Designed for sub-assemblies, this means you can paint the smaller components of a miniature without getting paint on everything else.

A somewhat niche tool I would imagine but one that might be of use. They say that you can glue bits onto the spikes and then clip them off later but I think a bit of tac might do the job just as well. This does show that Games Workshop are looking to focus people in on them being the place to go if you want all the bits for your hobby.
A Spinny Spray Stick
The next evolution of the Spray Stick is also going to be available this weekend. This one is similar to the old one BUT it spins now so you don't have to contort your arms into weird positions to get full coverage.

I have a friend who uses one of these (well, the old one) and he has said that it is pretty nifty. I like that they have also designed the plugs for you to put the sub-assembly parts in there too. Again, purpose-built for newcomers to the hobby who want to get everything they need to paint an army from one place.
I will be intrigued to see how many folks end up picking these tools up for themselves and using them during their hobby sessions.
Are you tempted by any of this kit?

Computer says no.
When I was 6 years old I used to wear fake glasses because I thought they made me smarter!
Will stick with my lollipop sticks
Everything here can be done with toothpicks, cardboard, rubber bands, and your own fingers FOR FREE. Screw all of this junk, this is the most explicit cash grab I’ve seen from Gee Dubs yet…
true … but sometimes it helps to have something with a bit more heft to it. I wouldn’t buy the painting stick, but I do think it is a useful thing. The sub-assembly thing is kind of ‘meh’. The 3rd hand looks made of cheap plastic and lacking in the combination of flexibility and stiffness that such a tool needs for it to work. I’m not sure if they’re that useful given that most GW kits can be glued with polystyrene cement, which doesn’t take ages to set. (also : the ones made for soldering also tends to have extra… Read more »
To gimicy for me except perhaps the XL model stand.
