Fighting Hedgehog's award winning game of raids and skirmishes during the Punic Wars, Clash of Spears, is about to move forward in time with their upcoming release The Rise of Eagles.

Rise of Eagles will be a PDF expansion for CLASH and is scheduled for release in the last week of October and will cover the Roman Late Republic and the Early Empire.

This is great news as it opens up the game for not only a whole new period of conflicts but for gamers who haven't yet tried the system because they weren't interested in the Punic Wars. Now they have no such excuse as the sexy Hollywood period of Romans will be available to add to the existing game.

If you haven't played CLASH yet then it's a tactical game for small scale actions that has both a command and control aspect and a resource management of fatigue. This makes the game constantly offer choices of the best way to play the scenario and pushing too early could leave you over extended and your force decimated.

Although we don't have a page count yet the guys at Fighting Hedgehog have shown off the army lists that are available to play. The Germanic Tribes are actually two lists and the Successors are split into three lists, Macedonian, Seleucid and Ptolemaic, so the expansion will actually contain thirteen new lists to use.

On top of that they are balanced against all of the original lists in the main Clash of Spears book although only the Gauls would be historically accurate to mix with the forces in the new book you could play your Carthaginians against Imperial Rome or the Parthians then feel free.

I would have preferred a real book as I'm terrible with PDFs but hopefully there will be a print on demand version available from the Vault when it goes live, even then I'm still going to be picking it up as the period and game both resonate with me strongly.

Will you be Raising the Eagle?
