November Brings New Mech’s to Battletech Alpha Strike

Catalyst Game Labs was happy to announce that November will bring the addition of 2 new battle packs for Alpha Strike. These pre-assembled mechs will bring 2 new forces into the mech arena.
The first pack is the Battletech: Assault Lance Pack which includes Atlas, Grasshopper, Blackjack and Victor!
Thrown into the thick of the firefight, an assault lance MechWarrior has an ego as wide as a DropShip. That ego was earned in blood, sweat and hard-fought victories in the teeth of the enemy across a hundred worlds…
The second pack is the Battletech: Pursuit Launch Pack which includes Centurion, Clint, Jenner and Wolfhound!
Whether headhunting or running down recon forces, a pursuit lance MechWarrior is a commander’s surgical instrument. Not deployed for just any situation, these specialists are only unleashed to turn the tide of battle…

I dunno…the minis might adhere to a very specific aesthetics but they look like blocky little toys to me. Me no gusta.
Feels like the designs are in need of some upgrades .. the atlas sure doesnt look like the super heavy im used to.
It’s nice to see Black Jack and Victor as plastic models once again in that assault lance box.
I’ve bought dozens of BT miniatures over the years, in just about every material that can be used for minis; I’m thinking that most of them are looking very dated, now. That Victor they’ve just done? Looks almost identical to the original metal mini from 25 years ago; can’t say that I liked it back then,either. What I don’t understand is why, in this age of digital sculpting and 3d printers they haven’t re-vamped things. It’s because it is a plastic copy of the original metal one. Catalyst just makes plastic copies of Ironwind sculpts, and the only new stuff Ironwind is doing is darkage it would seem (and even the new ones seem dated, just not as badly). I would love to get into MW, but the models are just far, far too hideous and dated for the price. It’s why I ended up pledging to the Heavy Gear Kickstarter that’s going on right now to get my fill of mechs (especially ones that look as good as the HG models).
I have to agree with the above comments, they look very dated – like models from the 80’s, I guess there might be a niche that appreciate things like that though.
Well sure, there are those of us that love those blocky designs. At same time I understand that those are not for everyone and those might turn off those not used to them. I have loved Battletech since mid-90’s when I was 16 so to me there is that nostalgia factor as well in these even if some mechs like Atlas used to look much bulkier and were not as skinny as these days.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love the blocky 80s design. What I don’t love is that they have the detail of soft Playdough, seem very lazily thrown together, and are so very awkwardly posed. I even picked up the second printing of the introductory starter set a couple months ago to see if the minis were any better in person.

Thanks for the heads up on that! It was on my list (I’ve got the previous starter set, but I was wondering if the minis were any better).
Some of the classic designs are still brilliant – I put more money into Robotech Tactics than I’d like to admit (yeah, yeah…), but some of them are a bit poo.

Well, if you like the style you should give Heavy Gear’s current kickstarter a look. They’re no infinity models, but they’re still pretty tight I’d say while looking early 90s/late 80s inspired.
Also dat scale joke doe. Isn’t the Centurion in lore one of the tallest mechs in existence? Stuff’s ridiculous xD
It’s so nice when people can see each others points of views 🙂 Yeah, nostalgia can be powerful, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that at all! It’s certainly a unique style and indentifiable so that’s one plus I think as theres a lot of mech stuff that looks very similar out there.
