August 11, 2021 by brennon
PSC Games has announced that they are working with the folks from Creative Assembly and Sega on a Historical board game based on the hit PC strategy title, Total War: Rome!
Total War: Rome - The Board Game // PSC Games
The board game will feature high-quality miniatures from the folks at PSC as well as artwork and assets taken from Total War: Rome Remastered. The scope of the game is to provide a fascinating tabletop translation of the digital strategy game for you to enjoy with three friends.
The game covers the period between 250BC and 50BC and has four players taking command of Rome, Carthage, Greece and Gallo-Germania. The core game experience plays out in a whopping three hours making it quite the event game and there are plans for expansions that give you a deeper dive into the mechanics of battle management.
As a massive fan of Total War: Rome and someone who likes a deep, strategic board game experience, this is ticking a fair few boxes. The map-based campaign movement and city building should be easy to replicate on the tabletop but it's the conflicts that I am intrigued to see more on.
Are you going to be adding this to your watchlist?

So the Total War series really did well with WHFB. Will this be “WHFB but with Romans”? 😉 28, 15, 10 or 6mm?
I would be surprised if it was 28mm. More likely to reuse MEG miniatures
And what scale are those?
15mm
I think the clues in “board game” 😉
I suspect it might reuse MEG miniatures in some form?
Oh I missed the “Board Game” part…. soooo… RISK? 😉
Probably safest to set expectations at that level 😀
The remastered artwork was really disappointing honestly, I would be much more enthusiastic about this if it had the classic artwork.
The aesthetic of the remaster was just awful in general, with really mixed art styles and much of the original feel lost.
It’s been growing on me, I wasn’t a huge fan at first but the punchier colors are a bit of a change from the darker grim look. The aesthetic didn’t really bother me that much, the improvements to the gameplay made it worthwhile for me.
Mmmm could be a great game I’ll look it over first.
3 hour boardgame. Nah, i’ll pass. Would just be gathering dust on the shelf. And the track record of PSC ‘high-quality’ boardgame miniatures has been spotty, but at least they did put right the planes in Battle of Britain and the soldiers in The Great War.
A game which has so much love and history in PC gaming it will be interesting to see how that is converted into a Board Game. I have seen games which play out over a grand scale and use a mini map to fight the battle with ranks of troops. It will be interesting if they go down that route or stay at the grand scale. I am excited but trying to match up to the IP given its impact on the PC gaming front it is difficult for a board game to meet those demands. However the interest really… Read more »
Time Commanders FTW
Total War worked as a videogame, because there’s no way in heck that you could ever combine both grand strategy and tabletop battles in a tabletop game (and have time to do something else).
It may attract a bigger crowd because of its art, but at the same time it makes me wonder how it will compare to existing games within that era.

Well Total War Warhammer works… and it had a similar game in Warmaster 😉
you’re thinking of mighty empires, aren’t you ?
Could be…. It was late XD
