Benedict Cumberbatch Confirmed As Doctor Strange!

Marvel has pretty much confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch is going to play Doctor Strange, the surgeon come sorcerer, in the upcoming films to tie into their massive silver screen universe!
I certainly think that Benedict Cumberbatch looks the part and from the images above by Marvel it looks like they headed in to chat about designs and such for the character. I imagine that's why so many photos in the background are all blurred out!
Doctor Strange is quite the interesting character and he's popped up in passing in some of the Marvel films before, especially in Winter Soldier where we get a direct reference. It's going to be awesome seeing how his magical prowess plays off against the other heroes.

Well it was about time for Doctor Strange to finaly get chance to have his own entry on silver screen. Still I would like to see movie about Carol Denver Miss Marvel even more.
Yeah likewise – although I’m sure I’ve seen some mention of tweet from Whedon hinting that she might make a brief appearance in one of the upcoming movies. Personally I think Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes did a lot elevate the character out of a particular… titillation rut.. thanks in no small part to Hale’s voice acting. I’d be really happy if Marvel made her a more important character during the supposed Civil War arc we are going to see on the big screen.
..plus I think it would be interesting to see what they would do for her costume. Something like a more patriotic version of her Warbird outfit would be my guess.

Awesome, thanks for that bit of news! Let’s just hope that every Marvel movie between now and then is commercially successful so that they don’t pull the plug on it!
Here’s to that. That said, if Carol is jumping straight to being Captain Marvel, odds are she’ll be wearing something akin to her current outfit, though probably out of a material more akin to Black Widows costume, though some Warbird mixed in would be pretty cool.
As a long-time Dr. Strange fan, I am really looking forward to this – I mean, how could you do the Infinity Gauntlet series without Dr. Strange?!? I know that Mephisto or Mordo are the obvious vilians, but this could be a chance to fix what they did to the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 – really looking forward to this! 🙂
Dormamu would be fitting starting villain considering that (least based on animated movie) he was reason why Steven Strange become Sorcerer Supreme.
I think he’s been re-originated like a dozen times – I think the best is the original – a material-obsessed alcoholic(?) surgeon who has an accident and mangles his hands, goes looking for healing and finds the ancient one and redemption- though this story is also the intro to baron mordo as well, but I find him a mediocre villain compared to the demons DS battles.
yeah the animated movie follows the same story about the car accident 🙂
but merges Dormamu invading peoples dreams 🙂
also adds a bunch of stuff about kung fu and ” magic projection ” weapons,
which was kind of odd, but kind of cool too … just a departure from the normal story 🙂

the only guy I thought could bring the right gravitas to the role, really happy he’s been cast 🙂
… and if he needs to say “by the hory hosts of hoggoth” a lot, you need that booming voice 😉
I think he can mix the darkness they’ll be bringing to the movie, and the quirky comedy perfectly 🙂

Think it is an awesome choice. Benedict might be one of the greatest actors of his generation and to get him to play this role will add great credibility to this movie as a great film (I HOPE) and a good super hero action adventure.
Dr Strange was always my favourite of the Marvel comic heroes. The various films in the past all failed to do justice to the character, so I am looking forward to this latest concept with calm expectation!
Great move, now they also setup the possibility for a second Marvel mach up movies series “the Defenders”. Maybe we get to see the Nighthawk than.
they are already doing the Defenders on netflix 😉

bah hum bug hes no dr fate and besides he already had a live action movie in the late 70s early 80s which was so bad it had marvel written all over it lol. Besides john cusack would have been my choice. Make mine dc

Kevin Feige has said that the Dr. Strange movie will be their vehicle to introduce parallel dimensions into the MCU. Very excited and Bendydick Bumblesnatch is perfect casting.
As a long-time Dr. Strange fan, too, I’d very much like to see what they can do with the character now, as opposed to that distorted story they filmed in the ’70s. And Cumberbatch has the look and demeanor that would work for Dr. Strange. So, yeah, bring it on.
And a pedantic side question:
Did you not know that it should be “surgeon-cum-sorcerer” from the Latin word “cum,” meaning “with,” or did you purposely misspell it because the correct spelling is too easily misconstrued as risque these days? Even though it is the first three letters of Benedict’s last name. 🙂
