5 Charity Space Marines
About the Charity
@avernos and @sundancer kindly showed this project on their Twitch stream and wondered a little about how the charity side of this worked. Though I’d add a bit here about that.
The charity wasn’t an auction. Instead we got sponsored to try and paint 100 marines from different chapters within a month.
There was a spreadsheet with different chapters listed and you had to reserve the marines you wanted to paint in advance. A few slots were left empty to allow suggestions for other chapters or custom chapters.
Donations also got you raffle tickets for a prize draw. The shop put up some prizes and players donated as well.
Furthermore you could pay extra and challenge one of the committee – Hallowed be the Committee – to paint a marine in your chosen colour scheme.
Initially I put in for two: Black Dragons and Covenant of Fire. As the project neared the end I bagged three more as I’d bought a 5 man sprue. It was obvious people didn’t want to paint chapters with white colour schemes. So I grabbed a couple of whites and the dark green Disciples.
On completion day it was nice to catch up with a few people. Covid restrictions were still in force so this was the first time many of us had met up.
I’ve grabbed a pic of the display and some other marines. I’m afraid it’s quite high up and I’m not tall. So my pics aren’t great but hopefully show the finished result well enough.
Money was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. The final tally was £1255.
