Mighty Dragons Return To Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
July 27, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop dropped another surprise this week. Warhammer Age Of Sigmar has featured the Dracoths and Stardrakes up until this point as allies of the Stormcast Eternals but now they are bringing the mighty Draconith back to The Mortal Realms.

The Draconith were instrumental in the formation of The Mortal Realms as they are but went into hiding when the mighty Kragnos rampaged through their sanctuaries. Now Kragnos has been awoken from his slumber, they have decided to aid the forces of Order once more.
Leading the way is the powerful Krondys. This fellow is part of Sigmar's inner circle which makes him out as incredibly important already. He is already able to harness a lot of magical potential but this is then enhanced thanks to the Regalia Fulmentaris around his neck. I am getting a very Dragonheart vibe from this fellow.

Karazai The Scarred is the second of the Draconith to have decided to make his mark on the realm of Ghur. Whilst Krondys plots and plans with Sigmar in his halls, Karazai has decided to be more proactive and now hunts the followers of Kragnos.

Karazai has spent so long traversing the realm of Ghur that he is now perhaps more twisted, bitter and prone to rage than his other kin. As someone who is a massive fan of dragons in general, I am really liking both of these additions to the world of Age Of Sigmar.

I do wonder how they are going to fit into your armies?! They tower over standard foot troops and are no doubt going to come to the tabletop with a fairly hefty cost in terms of points too. Still, when you're facing down an army led by Kragnos, they seem like the perfect allies.
Sigmar's Stormcast Eternals and Dracothian are intrinsically intertwined so it will be fascinating to see what their return to The Mortal Realms will do concerning the overarching story. If nothing else, they are going to be fascinating painting projects and I can't wait to see what people do with alternative paint schemes.
Are you liking this pair of more traditional-looking dragons?

Ok, I get that you only have so many options on “cool poses” but this is beyond lazy in my book. They could have at least mirrored the pose to make them “two sides of a coin” but this…. meh.
Ha ha, if I played AOS, there is absolutely no way I wouldn’t get Krondys and announce each action taken in my best Sean Connery voice!
Come in Dragonheart your time is up!
You hit the nail on the head there! God forbid anyone copies something from GW’s line, buuuuuut when it comes to GW let doppleganger juices flow.
Having said that, they are stunning models.
thanksh for the feedback. let the lawshuit commenshe.
I do like the Dragon but the multikist really get a bit lazy wiht their poses. And after the little story with the Skink and the Slaan I hoped the Draconiths would be their own faction.
My excitement curve upon hearing about new dragons went from a peak to a nose dive on seeing these.
The heads are very Disney like with no threat to them. The armour is jarring as it breaks the sense of scale on the dragon and makes it look toy like. And why not a second option for the wing instead of them both wafting away a particularly potent air biscuit? I would assume space on the sprue layout and therefore cost. Bah!
Really nice Dragons I actually love the poses. I dont get how this is “lazy” normally you get a Dragon just leaning forward with the two wings posed behind him this looks far more dynamic.
If you have one on the table that equals a great pose. More than one? Looks odd.
Pose might not have been the best word but look at these sets:

and even these:

while they share most of the body and the pose they still look quite different (the Khemri one does this best in my opinion) the two dragon’s in my opinion not so much.
They are beautiful but very samey looking. A second tail and maybe a scarred Wing for the red one would have done wonders.
Dragons can be so hit and miss, but this is a hit. I never liked the serpentine dragons that GW used to do, but their monster design nowadays is great. This is as good as the Oruk Wyvern from a few years back. I’ll be buying one of these for my Oathmark kingdom.
Weirdly generic dragons to come from GW, seeing as how they go out of their way to differentiate themselves from any other brand these days.
They’re good looking and imposing and let it not be said GW doesn’t know how to make a model kit.
But I already have 3 goodlooking dragons unpainted.
After some recent awesome releases, I had high hopes on an amazing sculpt but…
Don’t get me wrong, the miniature’s nice, it’s just that I expected much more 🙂
The heads dont do it for me. But dragons of this size in plastic are great.
Great looking Dragons but as sundancer has said the pose is boring if they did it right you could make four dragon’s from two poses.
The faces slay me. They look like they’d be the wise dragons some kids meet at the end of their Saturday Morning Cartoon adventure, ready to tell them how sharing is their greatest superpower.
Also unfortunate that the sculptor(s) took inspiration for the wings from an umbrella, rather than an actual membranous winged creature.
It’s a little weird seeing something this grounded and normal from the Age of Sigmar range, but they’re still very nice dragons with just enough character to them to make them good for all sorts of fantasy ranges. Karazai on the bottom would make a nice proxy for Smaug in LoTR games
Those are much better looking dragons than what GW had made in past Smaug not included.
Dragonith … because GW can’t trademark Dragons …
Compared to the fantastic beasts and monsters they’ve done these are almost a bit ‘too normal’.
I think the ones from Dungeons & Lasers team are better looking overall.
And we shouldn’t forget the Joan d’Arc Dragon …
I love dragons and there are some REALLY well done ones out there. But these just do not hit the nail on the head for me. Out of the two I like Karazi more, but that scarring is comical. They look way to Disney for my personal taste. These just don’t scream avatar’s of destruction to me. I’m not saying they are bad, just not my taste if my opinion ever mattered.
