*sigh* sheep in masks? Really.

Look I understand that many folk have differing opinions on the pandemic and the way it’s being handled. But as a society, we have to show some pragmatism here. Regardless of how severe you think the pandemic is it does pose a great risk to a lot of people. As a society, it’s on us to come together and try and give a level of protection to folk who need it. It may not require any heroics etc but that doesn’t make it any less important or worthwhile to those who need us to help protect them. Likewise we as a society are trying to find ways of opening up so we can keep the wheels churning. So nothing in all of this is ever going to be black and white, and the vast majority of folk just want to do things that will help.

So measures such as vaccine passports and masks are just a part of that. If you feel it’s impinging on rights etc that is perfectly fine, but there will come a time later when that can be addressed. But for the moment these extraordinary times are requiring us to make some (imho simple) sacrifices) – I will always keep an eye on the balance between restrictions and the severity of the pandemic, but at this stage I know we are still in the early mid stages of the pandemic and all sorts of stuff can still go wrong. (Pandemics of this type don’t burn out quickly)

So I think we have to take a bit of a step back sometimes and take a pragmatic view on all of this, time doesn’t stop and we can always address any issues that arrive later… 🙂

Like so many historical mini wargamers I’m in a vulnerable category. Even double vaccinated I won’t be going to shows or putting on games at shows unless there are assurances by organisers that they have appropriate safety measures in place, and that (for the moment at least), includes masks.

As the organiser of a (small) regional show, here in the UK, I will be responsible for folks safety as attendees and retailers. At the moment that means protecting others by insisting on masks or a valid medical reason not to wear a mask.

Passports I think are relevant only to demonstrate an attempt to transfer responsibility to the attendees.

No. I read your original post, and it is pertinent to gaming generally.  We can’t avoid reality altogether. All I can say is what I will choose as an organiser and as an attendee.

There is an entirely adult conversation to be had around what could become a two tier society and the possible erosion of civil liberties. Unfortunately starting the topic by making out one is are “sheep” is like the other side saying anyone who disagrees needs to take their tinfoil hat off. The conversation doesn’t happen.

I’m in somewhat of an agreement that the vaccine passport is a step too far, considering so far as I understand the vaccine doesn’t stop the spread of the virus, but suppresses symptoms and that some people can’t have the vaccine on medical grounds anyway. What are those people going to do? Admittedly I haven’t looked into it, so this could have been answered already.

I specifically asked this question of my doctor after my second shot because I honestly had no idea what exactly being vaccinated meant for me and those around me.  I was wondering if I should still be wearing a mask for the benefit of others.  I was told by the doctor that the vaccine would make it so that even if I did contract the virus, that it would be contained to such a small measure that I’d be unlikely to be able to transmit it to others or get seriously sick myself.  He said I wouldn’t need to wear a mask (of course unless I needed to by location guidelines, but not for health reasons).

So that suggests that being able to show that you are vaccinated, as in with a legitimate passport, that you shouldn’t be able to transmit COVID to others even if you do manage to contract it yourself.

Again, that’s what I was told specifically from a doctor in person when I asked this very same question.  Hope it helps.  🙂
