Somewhere around 1998 a yet-to-be-friend of mine boxed up all his stuff ready to go to University, where we later met.  We’ve lived in a few houses together since and a scary amount of time has passed (ie we’re much older than we are happy about).  My friend isn’t the best at tidying or putting things away and was largely fed up with GW so, 23 years later, the boxes his models in have never been opened.

He sort of moved out when lockdown begun, and our group of friends is looking to try 40K at the start of August and play a Crusade soon after.  He’s asked me to go through his stuff and see if he has enough unSquatted Eldar to actually build a viable list.

I spent a few hours going through all his boxes yesterday, taking pics of everything.  I’m going to share those pics here in the hopes that you can all help me identify everything.  I don’t know 40k that well and I really don’t know Eldar.  So here’s what I’m looking for for each piece:

1: What it was called back then, including weapon options (Model name, and if unclear, what faction it worked for, with and without its current paint scheme)

2: Has it been Squatted (ie removed from the game/lore)?  I know the Titan Legion/Epic stuff is long gone.

3: What is it called these days if different from 1.

4: Are there any changes that would need making to update it to a current stat profile (ie swap wapons, or increase base size)

5: “Hey Lawnor, they only ever printed 100 of those.  Thats actually worth a lot of money”

He’s a hoarder and not touched any of this stuff in a long time.  He’s not interested in getting rid of any of it and not mentioned selling it.  However, if you see something you want feel free to make an offer and I’ll make sure he sees it.  He’s moving and doesn’t have as much storage space.  Money may overcome his hoarding impulse.

If there’s any stat cards or data in here that have been lost to the ages and you want some pics please ask and I’ll do what I can.

I’m not planning on painting any of this.  This is just a sorting project.  Not all of this is GW either.  I know there’s some Robotix in there, and some Transformers weapons (The Transformers are in another box that’s already moved).

I haven’t looked at the photos yet and I have shaky hands so some may well need replacing later.  If you want any close ups on anything please ask.

The boxes. Doesn't look like all that much, does it? It took hours to carefully go through it all.The boxes. Doesn't look like all that much, does it? It took hours to carefully go through it all.

Here’s thet stack.  Ignore the Bloodbowl for now.  I’ve two peoples sets in the house and I’ve yet to process them.  I’m going to try to break this project down, one box at a time.  Problem is, the boxes contain more boxes so my system might change as I go.  Please comment below eact section with your ideas of whats what and I’ll try and keep an updated list in that project entry.

Update 11.47am 7th July 2021

I’ve set up the project and its lunchtime and the sun is out.  I’m off for lunch and then I have a fence to take down if the weather holds.  I’m about to set this as public.  I’ll come back later and update the posts with the names of things I can already identify.  All help is appreciated.

Update 18.23 7th July

I’ve labelled everything as best as I can and Scribbs has offered suggestions on most of it, which I’ve now incorporated.  The owner is slowly going through and giving me a few more names to add.  I’m now best part of two days deep on a task I thought I could do while waiting for a wash to dry.  I might step back for a couple of days and then try and assemble all the 40k Eldar in one place and work out if theres a starter list there.

I think a more thing to do is play “can Gerry find his copy without getting out of his chair?”!
