Sitting around dog watching  and keeping a presence over my friend’s house again I’ve been left without my painting gear. My friend, who is happy to have my help, suggested to bring it over and do hobby without the full depth of knowledge as to what that would entail. I, being somewhat level headed about hobby ambition and getting things done, decided to keep myself limited to basing and starting prep work on the Cococucqui. I managed to forget a few things and remedied that by picking them up again but here I have started bringing details to bear which will be fruitful later on.

Greenstuffworld has a flagstone roller that has been useful on MDF using kneadatite. I did manage, by accident, to find that vegetable glycerin will not only keep the roller clear when using a layer as a release agent prior but will soften the epoxy if you just wet your fingers and work it into the material. I’ve found the general tackiness irritated the hell out of me in working the material but in doing the texture work it actually was ok. It also helps when pressing down and rolling over the gaps. The pressure will force a bit of material between individual bases and the movement tray but it is easily cleared. After giving the greenstuff some time to set somewhat just take a sculpting knife and gently scrape away the excess inside the tray and from the edge of the base. You can keep great detail and allow the base to fit loose enough to move a mini in and out of the tray. It also helps to use a base cutter to avoid losing details.

During the week I’ve gotten a 60mm, 50mm, a pair of 90x120mm ovals, a pair of loose cavalry skirmish trays and four 2×5 trays for 25mm rounds. My Kickstarter order will mostly be taken care of aside from a few additional individual character models. As of this moment I have need to buy more greenstuff as all the things I’ve been doing has used it up. Honestly I’m very happy to put it all to use though I might just spend cash on a pound (1.6 kg?) Apoxiesculpt and buy only small amounts of other epoxy products.

The Arabian Knights project is informing this build a lot and I’m working with what I’m learning contemperaneously. Getting a coherent visual theme is something I am going to run with. Flagstone, skulls, fine grit earth and the ferns I amassed will make the soil beneath the Amazon feet come to life. I’ll add the occasional odd detail here and there later to make things interesting.
