Fly Free In This Awesome Serenity Replica
October 20, 2014 by dracs
There are few cries which unite the geek community more than that of "bring back Firefly." Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the ship Serenity will be taking off again any time soon, but that's OK as thanks to QMx you can now pick up your own replica of this iconic space ship.
This detailed replica stands at 27" in length, 18" in width and 8" in height. This makes it one of the biggest Firefly replicas that have thusfar been built.
QMx have listed all of their model's features:
- Incredible complexity. More than 250 parts — cast and laser cut.
- Extra strength. Steel skeletal structure and internal brass structure for main engine rotation.
- Interior bling. More than 100 LEDs controlled by a 12-volt system.
- Multi-layered colors. A total of 25 different colors of high-quality studio paints.
- No decals. All graphics on Serenity are painted on by hand, even Serenity's logo.
- Exquisite details. Miniature bridge with crew members, galley with furniture and cargo bay with cargo.
- Movable parts. Manually operable cargo bay door and hinged reactor vent covers.
- Wireless remote. Custom electronics created by QMx FX Cinema Arts with a four-channel remote control. Effects include:
- Interior lighting for the bridge, galley and cargo bay, and illuminates docked shuttles.
- Active formation lights
- Rotating gravity rotor lights
- Reactor housing illumination with a hard burn and twinkling firefly effect.
- Cool display. Serenity’s lighted display base is a box stand with a Translight inset of a nebula. It features a 12-inch steel stand that adjusts at a variety of angles for optimal display.
- Pro prop crate. Each Serenity is shipped in custom-cut foam and stored in a hand-built wooden apple crate, just like what the pros use to safeguard their props
As you can see, this is definitely something for the major collector, with all manner of cool stuff built into the model. It even includes scaled miniatures of the crew, going about their daily lives aboard Serenity.
This replica is currently up for pre-order for the modest price of $7495, so I don't expect I will be seeing this turning up on anyone's coffee tables any time soon, although I do know some Firefly fans who might be willing to sell elderly family members to raise the cash.
Still, it is an incredibly awesome model, covering all the details which characterised the show's ship, right down to the shuttle on the wing. This is definitely something of a dream product for any Firefly fan.
Are you a Browncoat? If you won the lottery would you add this to your wish list?
For that price, you’d think GW made it :-).
Amen brother.
That looks really good. Truly high end replica.
Ooo Shiny and at that price it should be 1 to 1 scale? with running engine.
Not just a running engine, @zorg , but also Inara Serra the Companion . . . 🙂
YES Please she’s very good at fine stick control allegedly.
A bargain
😉
awesome model, awesome show, scary price lol
Isn’t it about time Airfix or Tamiya made a model kit of Serenity? Would love one but $7.5k is a bit strong.
Or maybe Bandai could make one. They have some experience with ship model kits as well.
well out of my price range……………but damn it looks good! as @mecha82 says Bandai could do a really nice model, there kits are pretty sweet now days.
Oh well, just have to keep watching the DVD’s and dream on……………….
When I saw the price I almost became a Browntrousers…
And even if I had the spare cash I have nowhere to put it!
