Magic: The Gathering D&D Crossover Now Available To Playtest
June 11, 2021 by fcostin
Don't you love crossovers in our tabletop universe? Even those who are not immersed in tabletop gaming are sure to know exactly what Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons exactly are, held at the reigns of Wizards of the Coast. Whether they know the mechanics of either two or not, these two tabletop giants are known across all of pop culture for popularity alone.
Strixhaven: School Of Mages // Wizards Of The Coast
When these two giants were announced to collide, fans of both franchises were in awe. Seeing more from the rich universe of MTG cross-over into a roleplaying scenario within D&D.
Wizards of the Coast have now released some brand new playtest content, and are asking for your help and input too! As players are encouraged to head back to school and enrol into one of the five colleges of Strixhaven in this instalment of Unearthed Arcana.
For those Magic: The Gathering players out there, you will not be a stranger to the new subclasses and colleges that reside in Strixhaven, however, slotting these schools into an RPG environment would be an entirely new experience.
The playtest document highlights all of the schools which can now be explored for Dungeons & Dragons and allows players to pick their subclass and mage belonging to a very different magical set.
So let's have a look at what schools are recruiting and what college is right for you...
Lorehold College // Strixhaven: School Of Mages
The Lorehold have their head buried in the past, enriched with the knowledge of folklore and history due to the evoking of spirits of the past, available to Wizards, Warlocks and Bards.
Prismari College // Strixhaven: School Of Mages
The Prismari college are your artsy-type students, encouraged to feel their expressions through the use of the elements. Creating wonders of expressed art through the form of magic, the Prismari are looking for Sorcerers, Druids and Wizards to join their crusade.
Quandrix students are technically minded beings. Unlike the creative minds in Prismari, these mages have the ability to construct the craft into equations in search of logically able Sorcerers and Wizards to enrich their skills within mathematics to create some calculated magic.
Silverquill College // Strixhaven: School of Mages
Silverquill enrollees have the gift of the gab, social skill geniuses with the ability to construct wording through spoken-word or welding a quill. Bards with the enhanced quick-witted ability would flourish in Silverquill, however, Wizards and Warlocks are welcome to join.
Witherbloom College // Strixhaven: School of Mages
The Witherbloom college finds serenity in nature, harnessing the natural world around them to understand the severity of life, death and the living creatures that are residing within their universe. Yes, this screams the perfect fit for a Druid, however, Warlocks are encouraged to enrol if they are looking for a new route with a new major.
Get yourself familiar with the different abilities and level progression for each college in the new Unearthed Arcana, as Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a playtest survey to gain your insight to the new subclasses and universe created.
What school would you enrol in? Witherbloom for me! All the plants, all the animals, how could I not?

Magic the gathering Wizards.
I’m surprised that WoTC didn’t do this the moment they had both D&D and MtG in their hands.
The only negative I see is that the non-magicusers will feel even more worthless in this campaign setting.
I do have my doubts that this world could function, because it doesn’t feel like they ever thought of the ‘real world’ implications of the spells and effects in this game (ie : if resurrection is easy then war will be very different … ).
